FINE WALRATH POTTERY MUG MADE FOR FRANK VON DER LANCKEN. First quarter 20th century, Rochester, NY. The arts and crafts matte glaze example in muted shades of greens and beige decorated overall with a floral motif and the letters “VON” within a rondel, the opposing side with “ALEMBIC” within a panel. The underside with inscribed mark for Walrath Pottery. The first comprehensive exhibition for Frank von der Lancken was held at Hirschl & Adler January 6th – February 24th 2001. Frank was “born in Brooklyn in 1872, von der Lancken was one of the early progenitors of the Arts and Crafts movement in America, an artist of exceptional talent, and an educator of great passion. In many ways, Frank von der Lancken was at the very forefront of American art; yet, astoundingly, he slipped by almost unnoticed”. SIZE: 5-1/8″ h.
