CHARLES D. CONTIS (American, Mid-20th Century) “LATE FEBRUARY IN NEW ENGLAND”. Large oil on canvas winter scene shows a large red mill building next to water with three seagulls. Snow covers the landscape with houses and blue hills in background. Signed lower left “C. D. Contis”. Housed in a fine gilt molded wood replacement frame. Attached to back of canvas is an exhibition label from the “Jordan Marsh Company 15th Annual Exhibition of Paintings May 22 – June 3, 1944”. The label has artist name, address and title. We have been unable to find any information on this artist but a very nice regional work. SIZE: 30” x 36”. CONDITION: One small patch with corresponding inpainting. 9-26727 (1,000-1,500)
