EMILE ALBERT GRUPPE (American, 1896-1978) “SILVERY DAY GLOUCESTER”. Fine oil on canvas Gloucester Harbor scene shows two green and red hulled single mast boats in dry dock being worked on by one man. A road in front of the boats leads to a wharf with buildings. A boat with drying nets is seen beside. A tall two-mast schooner is seen in harbor with other buildings and wharf. A lightened gray sky. Signed lower right “Emile A. Gruppe”. Housed in its original silvered gilt carved wood frame. Pencil inscription on back of frame and title. PROVENANCE: A private Pennsylvania Collection.
