MEISSEN TWO PART MANTEL CLOCK AND MEISSEN PLATEAU. Third quarter 19th century to first quarter 20th century. German. In rococo taste, the porcelain case decorated overall with dense polychrome floral garlands, surmounted by a scrolling crest framed by song birds, case with enameled dial with gilt bronze bezel centering a roman numeral chapter ring. Eight day brass movement mark “AS” with serial number “616279”. Case with scrolled feet resting upon similarly decorated stand, each leg with scrolling leaf tips and floral garland raised on scrolled feet, all gilt decorated. Plateau also decorated with polychrome floral sprays, centering a cartouche with putti, additionally decorated with floral springs, insects and butterflies. Clock with incised mark “B16”, crossed swords in underglaze blue. Small plateau with incised mark “B16”, impressed mark “100”, crossed swords in underglaze blue. Large plateau impressed mark “23”, crossed swords in underglaze blue. SIZE: Clock: 13-3/4″ h. Small plateau: 4-3/4″ overall h x 9-3/4″ overall l x 6-1/5″ overall w. Large plateau: 4-1/3″ overall h x 13-3/4″ overall l x 9-3/4″ overall w. PROVENANCE: From a fine New Jersey home. CONDITION: Clock with losses to bird’s tails, enamel dial with hairline crack extending from Roman numeral VIII through XI, additional losses to leaf tips and flower petals. Smaller plateau with general losses to some flower petals. Larger plateau with similar losses, minor in nature. Generally all three pieces in good to very good condition. 9-24507 (4,000-6,000)
