BENJAMIN CHAMPNEY (American, 1817-1907) SAILING DAYS. Fine watercolor scene shows two fishing sailboats near shore with low waves with eleven other sailboats on horizon. All under a light yellow to blue sky. Signed lower right “Champney”. Housed in its original gesso decorated frame with gilt matte. A very unusual subject for this White Mountain School landscape painter. PROVENANCE: Found in a New Hampshire barn. SIGHT SIZE: 11-1/4” x 23”. CONDITION: Generally good. There are some light stains on the very edge by the matte. 9-28100 (2,000-4,000)
