TWO ENGLISH BALANCE SCALES. 19th Century. England. The first with stenciled name, “WHITEHAEAD & HONEY, BRISTOL” on the base. The iron and brass balance mechanism unmarked. Set on a marble panel joined to a mahogany molded base. The scale with a circular marble slab. The second and unmarked example with iron mechanism and base fitted with two brass circular pans. Each scale offered with four weights ranging from 4 ounces to 2 pounds. SIZE: First: 10″ h x 23-1/2″ l x 8-1/2 w. Second: 11-1/2″ h x 24-1/2″ overall l x 10″ overall w. CONDITION: Both mechanisms appear operational. Surfaces generally in need of cleaning. Circular marble slab broken and re-joined. Fair to good overall. 9-26450 (400-600)
