SCARCE TRENTON MODEL 1861 RIFLE MUSKET. Cal .58. 40” part oct bbl. Dated 1864 on the lock and 1863 on bbl. Slightly over 11,000 of these muskets were made by the Trenton Locomotive & Mechine Co. in Trenton, N.J. in 1863 and 1864. It is not unusual to have both dates on a single gun. This one has no inspector cartouche but does have the “N.J.” cartouche on the stock beneath the same stamp on bbl. NSN. CONDITION: Very good with scattered light spots of pitting and rust stains on the bright metal. Stock has been cracked at the rear lockplate screw but otherwise only has light handling marks. Lock is crisp. 4-49627 FS101 (1,000-2,000)
Auction: Firearms - Fall 2003 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
