TWO PAIR OF SHERATON CARVED MAHOGANY ARMCHAIRS. Second quarter 19th century and mid 20th century. The first: rectangular molded crest joined to reeded stiles centering a reeded pierced splat carved with rosettes. The stiles joined to reeded shaped arms on baluster turned supports centering a trapezoidal slip seat raised on frontal baluster turned tapering legs with ringed cuffs. The rear legs backswept. The second: painted and gilt decorated in gold green and upholstered in a silk moire. SIZE: First: 32-3/4″ h of back, 17-1/2″ h of seat. Second: 33-1/2″ h of back, 18″ h of seat. PROVENANCE: Woolworth Collection (F.W. Woolworth Dept. Store). CONDITION: First pair: Both chairs with dark color, scrubbed. Each with repairs to stiles at crestrail. One chair missing 1/2″ along entire length of crestrail. Structural condition is fair. Second pair: Very good overall with original painted surfaces. 9-21341 (200-400)
