PASSAMAQUODDY BIRCH BARK DECORATED WASTE BASKET. Circa 1939. Hand stitched of cylindrical form, the sides decorated with caribou, rabbit and Native American encampment. SIZE: 13-1/2″ h x 11-3/4″ dia. PROVENANCE: Accompanied by old tag which reads “Waste Basket Made by Passamaquoddy Indian Chief Louis in Princeton Maine reservation in 1939”. CONDITION: Very good with original surfaces. Handles missing. Horizontal split in body of caribou. 9-21673 (300-500)
