PAIR OF AMERICAN WINDSOR STEP-DOWN CHAIRS IN OLD PAINT. Early 19th century. The curved stepped crestrails joined to a seven spindle back above the shaped saddle seat raised on cylindrical simulated bamboo splayed legs joined by a box stretcher. Each chair marked on the underside of seat with the painted initials “J. D.” Early black paint over red wash. SIZE: 33-1/4″ h of back, 17-1/2″ h of seat. CONDITION: Structurally good. Painted surfaces worn. No restorations noted. 9-20762 (400-600)
