PAIR OF UNIQUE ORIENTAL CARVED AND RED LACQUER BULLDOGS. Second half 19th century. Both examples carved from the solid and wearing a studded collar. Painted in a rust red color with beige facial features with painted eyes. Each with a stylized blanket in red and black lacquer depicting Asian landscapes. SIZE: 17-1/2″ h x 29″ l x 10-3/4″ w. PROVENANCE: From the private collection of Dorothy-Lee Jones. CONDITION: With all original surfaces. Generally in very good structural condition. Minor shrinkage cracks at leg seams. Paint worn off left proper ear on one dog. Scuffing to toes. 9-21658 (1,000-2,000)
