FINE CARVED PINE TRADE SIGN OF A LOBSTER. 2nd quarter 20th Century. This good example originally painted, now stripped and polished, depicts a curled lobster with stylized bent iron antenna and fixed with iron brackets for hanging. SIZE: 30″h x 56″l (overall). PROVENANCE: The sign was once displayed in Jack Baker’s Lobster Shanty, Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey. CONDITION: As previously noted, painted surfaces removed. A 9″ x 6″ copper plate attached to side behind eye (as seen in photo). Plate is probably a reinforcement for a horizontal shrinkage crack seen to the left and right.
