PAIR OF GEORGIAN STYLE CARVED GILTWOOD ARMCHAIRS. Second half 19th Century. England. The serpentine crest rail above rectangular over upholstered back joined to floral carved arms on incurved supports centering trapezoidal overupholstered seat the whole covered in tapestry designed with dense floral foliage centering a griffin mask. The seat rails carved with scrolling leaf tips and flower heads. The frontal rail carved with a mask of floral foliage. Raised on floral carved cabriole legs terminating in snail feet. SIZE: 42″ h of back x 29″ w. PROVENANCE: From the “Harp House” of Camden, Maine. CONDITION: With overall slight and even wear to gilded surfaces. Generally very good. 9-26814 (1,000-2,000)
