NAPOLEON III WALNUT SECRETAIRE ABATTANT. Third quarter 19th century, French. The rectangular case with rounded corners with a conforming white Carrara marble top above the conforming chest fitted with a long drawer above a vertical hinged lid dropping open to an interior of Neoclassical form simulating a grand ballroom with parquetry floor lined with columns above and beneath which is a row of yew drawers including hidden compartments. Over three additional long drawers all with shaped raised panels flanked by baluster turned engaged half columns above a plinth base raised on suppressed ball feet. SIZE: 58-1/4″ h x 34-1/2″ w x 16″ d. PROVENANCE: From the “Harp House” of Camden, Maine. CONDITION: Surfaces original. Lid with normal and expected shrinkage cracks seen in veneers. Small elements of interior molding absent. Otherwise very good. 9-26825 (2,000-3,000)
