SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1873 TRAPDOOR RIFLE WITH BAYONET. Cal. 45-70. Standard issue rifle with 32-1/2” round bbl, stamped over the breech end “WB32389”, pedestal blade front sight, ski jump rear sight, low arch breechblock, 1-pc wood stock with the outline of a cartouche on the left wrist, secured with two bbl bands and with a button-head slotted wiping rod. It is accompanied by an original type brown leather and brass sling. Also accompanies is an original socket triangular bayonet with blued steel scabbard, leather frog and U.S. marked brass hangar. SN 174616. CONDITION: Good to very good. Bbl retains 75-80% original blue turning plum with several nicks and scratches on the top. The breechblock and lockplate retain 85-90% dulled blue. The trigger guard retains 70-75% dull blue. Wood is sound with myriad nicks and dings, retaining most of an old refinish. The sling is fine with lightly crackled surface finish, completely intact with both keepers. The bayonet, scabbard and frog are fine. The bore is dark and worn. The rear sight ladder blade is bent. 4-49121 JR82 (400-700)
