CHIPPENDALE STYLE CARVED MAHOGANY BONNET TOP HIGHBOY. Benchmade early 20th century. The molded bonnet top swan’s neck pediment terminating in flower heads, centering three flame finials above the upper case, fitted with a central shell carved and foliate center drawer, flanked by small drawers above four graduated thumbmolded long drawers flanked by engaged fluted quarter columns. The lower case with mid molding fitted with a thumbmolded long drawer over three short drawers, the centermost shell carved and with leaf tips above a scalloped and arched molding raised on acanthus carved cabriole leg terminating in bold carved claw and ball feet. SIZE: 76-1/4″ h x 34″ w (upper case), 38″ w overall, 20″ d overall. PROVENANCE: Property of an East Coast Institution. CONDITION: This fine benchmade example constructed primarily of old timbers in very good condition overall retaining original surfaces and hardware. Figural veneer slightly worn above proper right top drawer in upper case. 9-98346 (800-1,200)
