IMPORTANT KYOTO SATSUMA DRAGONWARE VASE. Second half Meiji Period (1890-1912). This impressive example densely populated with figures of scholars, warriors, children, and women within the landscape. Around the base are the figures of two fierce dragons emerging into the foreground. The samurai figures appear to be defending the others. The base is artist and potter signed in addition to the “Dai Nippon” mark. The upper collar with embossed coins. The everted rim embossed in gold designs. The ground heavily crackled in ivory tones. SIZE: 18″ h x 12-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: Purchased by a member of the Finnergan Family of the Tadcaster Brewery while visiting a missionary in China in the mid-20th century. CONDITION: Very fine condition overall with wonderfully detailed figures. With minimal and minor losses to painted and gilt surfaces. 9-97801 (1,500-2,500)
