CHARDONS & BORDURE EPINES R. LALIQUE VASES. First half 20th century. The first tall cylindrical example in the Chardons pattern with an everted rim decorated overall with intertwined thorny branches. Signed “R. LALIQUE” on bottom. The second in the Bordure Epines pattern of square bulbous form, each corner molded with spiny leaves, the circular top with everted rim. Impressed with “R. LALIQUE”, in addition “FRANCE” etched beneath the base rim. SIZE: Chardons: 7-3/4″ h. Bordure Epines: 7-1/2″ h. PROVENANCE: Property of an East Coast Institution. CONDITION: Chardons: substantial shell fracture on side of base rim, approximately 1/2″ x 1″. Slight surface scratches throughout. Bordure Epines: fleabites on top rim and scratches on base rim. 9-98333 (800-1,200)
