GEORGE II STYLE APPRENTICE PIECE OF WALNUT CHEST OF DRAWERS. 19th century. The rectangular molded and cross banded top above the conforming case fitted with a pair of aligned short drawers over two long drawers on a quarter round molded base raised on bracket feet with shaped and scalloped returns. The whole in burled walnut veneers with mahogany and walnut crossbanding. SIZE: 16″ h x 17″ w x 8-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: Originally owned by Abigail Adams to Ida Lee Orr of Boston, MA to Alford King of Boston, MA to Stephen Bates to the current owner. The piece is accompanied with a 1914 sales receipt, appraisal from 1986 and a bill of sale from Ida Orr to Alford King. CONDITION: Surfaces dry with slight lifting of veneers. Side panels with small shrinkage cracks. Some loss to veneer of proper right rear foot. 9-20640 (1,000-1,500)
