HALF HULL MODEL OF THE SHIP “SOPHIA & ELIZA”. 2nd half, 19th Century. This seven lift architect’s model mounted on an oak board of the Barkentine “Sophia & Eliza” built in Duxbury, Mass, 1841 by Joseph Holmes. Affixed to the plaque in the proper lower right hand corner is an inventory tag impressed “N.O.-7” of the institution from which this model came. Additionally, on the back of the plaque is affixed a paper with the following information: “Sailed to Indian Ocean. returned April 1844 1300 bbls. whale oil. 200 bbls sperm oil. Capt. Coffin. Sailed July 1844 to Indian Ocean. Capt. Stevens. Sold to Stonington Conn. Rammed by British Barque Wellington Lat 18 (degree) S. Long 17 (degree) N.
