BASSETT-LOWKE WORKING MODEL OF TUGBOAT WITH CASE. First quarter 20th century. This hand made replica of a working tugboat showing deck house with single stack, rear hatch and cover, fitted with a working motor manufactured by Stuart Turner Ltd, Henley-on-Thames, England, model motor makers since 1898. Plaque mounted on after deck “BASSETT-LOWKE LTD/MODEL MAKERS/NORTHAMPTON/MANCHESTER-LONDON-EDINBURGH”. The model with a single propeller and rudder, the latter functioning with a brass lever at the stern. Now mounted in a glass display case with hinged door. SIZE: Model: 8″ h x 24″ l x 4-1/2″ w. Case: 16″ h x 30″ l x 12″ w. CONDITION: In all original condition with stand. In our opinion, this model appears never to have been used. Battery compartment and motor clean and original. The black paint along the gunwales has dried and cracked in some areas. Red bottom paint with dry and missing areas along keel. 9-20655 (900-1,200)
