TWO SUNDERLAND LUSTRE PITCHERS & A BOWL. First half 19th Century. The Dixon Phillips & Sunderland bowl with four reserves on the exterior including “THE SAILOR’S FAREWELL”. The interior similarly decorated including “JACK CRAWFORD/ THE HERO OF CAMPERDOWN/ OCT 11 1797”. The first pitcher with raised molded decoration of hunters and their dogs and marked beneath the spout “JOHN & ANN RUSHTON/ LEEK/ 1817”. The last decorated with a British frigate and titled “NORTHUMBERLAND 74”. The opposing side with a poem titled “THE TEAR” “THE MAN DOOMED TO SAIL/ WITH THE BLAST OF THE GALE,/ THROUGH BELLOWS ATLANTIC TO STEER,/ AS HE BENDS O’ER THE WAVE/ WHICH MAY SOON BE HIS GRAVE,/ REMEMBERS HIS HOME WITH A TEAR.”. SIZE: Bowl 10″ d; First pitcher 6-1/2″ h; Second pitcher 4-1/2″ h. PROVENANCE: From the private collection of Dorothy-Lee Jones. CONDITION: Bowl very good with overall craquelure.
