FULL BODIED COPPER COLONEL PATCHEN HORSE WEATHERVANE. Last quarter 19th century, American. This large example with gilded surfaces having a zinc head with open mouth and hollow tail and mane. Offered with museum stand. NOTE: similar example sold at Sotheby’s, New York, January 20, 2006, lot 222. Also illustrated in The Art of the Weathervane by Steve Miller, page 6, Puritan Iron Works broadside. Similar model of the Patchen running horse used in a four wheel sulky and horse weathervane by J.L. Mott, New York as illustrated in The Art of the Weathervane by Steve Miller, page 32.
