RARE AND UNUSUAL BLACK FOREST OWL UMBRELLA STAND. Circa 1900. This finely carved example depicting two full bodied owls each fitted with a container for walking sticks standing on a rock work plinth centering a tray and branch form support for umbrellas. The back carved with open trellis work. Left side facing of plinth is open, right side facing of plinth is notched and open. SIZE: 32″ h x 33-1/2″ w x 15″ d. PROVENANCE: From a private collection. CONDITION: Retains all original surfaces with rich dark patina. Owls retain original sleeves. Original paint on wooden eyes. Normal and acceptable shrinkage cracks in proper left owl. A section of carved trellis work is unattached as is a 3″ section of rock work. Otherwise very good. 9-20631 (1,500-2,000)
