PAIR OF HOBOKEN FIRE CARRIAGE LANTERNS. 19th century. The hexagonal kerosene lanterns each mounted with a displayed eagle finial, the body mounted with alternating etched and frosted glass panels in red, white and blue, marked “EXEMPT / ASSOCIATION” flanked by panels marked “HOBOKEN”. Each oval beveled glass panel mounted within a copper frame overlaid with cast floral elements. SIZE: 22″ h. CONDITION: Both lamps with original glass panels. Each now mounted with electric sockets. Original burners now absent. One example with two cracked glass panels. The second example with intact panels with one floral spandrel disconnected, but present inside lantern. Both lanterns showing extensive weathering and corrosion, but restorable. 9-98447 (1,000-1,600)
