GEORGE III MAHOGANY TALL CASE CLOCK BY WILLIAM REYNOLDS. Late 18th century, England. The arched cove molded cornice surmounted by three brass ball and spire finials. The bonnet with free standing fluted colonnettes centering the arched door opening to the brass dial with Roman and Arabic chapter rings centering a sweep seconds subsidiary dial and time, strike and date apertures. The inner dial enhanced with scrolling leaf tips. All within cast brass spandrels beneath a moon phase brass dial within the arch applied with a plaque marked in script “Wm Reynolds Kirkbride”. Mounted behind which is an 8 day brass movement striking on bell. The case with rectangular door with serpentine top flanked by engaged quarter columns on string inlaid plinths joined to the cove molded box base applied with a square molded panel, raised on molded bracket base. Clock offered with pair of iron weights, pendulum rod and bob, winder and door key. SIZE: 8′ h x 15″ w of throat x 10″ d. CONDITION: Case with professional restoration to veneers and repolished. Brass finials later replacements. Movement has been cleaned. Dial and face original. Generally very good. 9-25480 (1,500-2,500)
