AZEL CAPEN (American, Mid 19th century) PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG GIRL IN PINK DRESS. Oil on canvas three quarter view shows a young brown haired girl in a fancy puffy sleeve pink dress. Housed in an antique gesso decorated gilt frame and gilt liner. On reverse of canvas stenciled “Painted by A. Capen” with script “Septr 1839″. SIZE: 25″ x 21”. PROVENANCE: On loan in 1984 to the University of Maine, Farmington along with 2 other portraits by this artist. CONDITION: 2″ tear in background along with several other small slits and losses in background. Otherwise good. 9-26275 (1,000-2,000)
