SIGNED SHERATON PAINT DECORATED WASHSTAND. Circa 1829, Portland, Maine. This nice example in yellow/green paint with blue borders decorated with fruit sprays. The scrolled three quarter splash guard joined to the upper shelf fitted for basin and cups raised in incurved supports centering a medial shelf, the frieze fitted with a single paint decorated drawer raised on baluster turned legs. Signed in pencil in script on the interior of the back board behind the drawer “Nathanial Brown Esq., painter./Portland, May 21, 1829.” SIZE: 36″ h overall x 20-1/2″ w x16″ d. CONDITION: With original painted surfaces. The turned legs with substantial paint loss. Repaired split to splash guard. Otherwise good. 9-26761 (1,000-2,000)
