HALF HULL MODEL OF PRISON SHIP “BRUNSWICK”. Early 20th century. This three masted example rendered with a bowsprit, rudder, and aft cabin carved from the solid and covered overall with strips of oxbone simulating timbers, mounted on a single pine board with half round molding. The backboard painted green and inscribed “HIS MAJESTYS BRUNSWICK PRISON HULK / MOORED: RIVER MEDWAY off CHATHAM 1811.~PRISONERS of WAR HELD ONBOARD NUMBERED 460 SOULS.~DESTROYED by FIRE 1829.” SIZE: 16″ x 39″. CONDITION: Retains all original surfaces with crackling to paint and small shrinkage crack upper left corner facing. Very good overall. 9-98036 (1,500-2,000)
