AZEL CAPEN (American, Mid 19th century) PORTRAIT OF A WOMAN IN LACE BONNET. Unframed oil on canvas half portrait of a woman in a black dress having a lace collar and lace bonnet with burgundy and white leaf decorated bonnet sash tied at her neck. On reverse of canvas is an artist’s stencil “Painted by A. Capen” also handwritten “Stoughton Septr 1839″. SIZE: 27″ x 22”. PROVENANCE: On loan in 1984 to the University of Maine, Farmington along with two other portraits by the same artist. CONDITION: Some inpainted touch-up spots, some minor chips, otherwise very good. 9-26274 (1,000-2,000)
