UNSIGNED (American First Half 19th Century) “THE MILKMAID”. Watercolor on paper folk art scene shows a full view of a young woman in country dress carrying a redware milk pan full of milk. In the landscape a woman milks a cow and three sheep are seen under a tree. Housed in antique mahogany veneer frame. An old pencil paper on reverse indicating that it was purchased from the Mrs. Willard Fowler estate in the early 1900’s. The Fowler Tavern was on Main Street in Westfield and the front door had been removed and is at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City. SIZE: 20-1/2″ x 16-1/2″.
