JEAN-ANTOINE LEPINE EMPIRE MANTEL CLOCK. Circa 1795-1810, French. This white marble and gilt metal mounted example fashioned with a pair of classical urns on sockles, each having a swan within, centering an enameled dial with Arabic numeral chapter ring, centering a time and strike aperture, signed in maroon painted script “Lepine / H-GER DU ROI”, within a cast brass mount. Raised on rope twist cast brass columns adorned with tassel chains, surmounted by a white marble urn with gilt metal mounts, all on a marble plinth raised on suppressed ball feet. SIZE: 17-1/2″ h x 11-1/4″ l x 4″ d. PROVENANCE: Property of an East Coast Institution. CONDITION: Rear door accessing brass movement missing glass cover. No signature visible on works. Key and pendulum absent. Small old restoration on case within upper urn. Chainwork in need of reattachment in various areas. Otherwise good. 9-98334 (1,000-2,000)
