LOUIS XV CARVED FRUITWOOD BERGERE. Second half 18th century. The arched molded crestrail centering a carved cartouche flanked by leaf tips. The shaped padded back inserted within the back frame. Downswept arms with padded rests continuing to hand grips with molded volutes on molded serpentine supports joined to the shaped, molded and carved seat rail, fitted with a conforming overupholstered seat frame, the front rail carved with a shell cartouche framed in leaf tips, raised on molded cabriole legs on scrolling feet. The whole of pegged construction. SIZE: 37-1/2″ h of back x 29-1/4″ w overall, 12-3/4″ h of seat rail, 25″ w of seat. CONDITION: The chair has been cleaned, restored and repolished. Originally painted, the frame is now polished in a natural finish. The frame retains structural integrity. Upholstery has been redone in the mid 20th century. 9-98392 (800-1,200)
