CHARLES ALBERT FISKE (American, 1836-1915) ICE BOATING IN THE MEDFORD YACHT RACE. This unusual large oil on canvas painting depicts the 1914/15 Medford Boat Club Yacht Championship race. It shows in the foreground an iceboat “Venture” with full sails tilting on one runner with two men steering. Two other boats are approaching a turn, all on ice covered water with land beyond. Signed lower left “C.A. Fiske 1919”. The artist is depicted on the leading iceboat. Housed in its original period gesso decorated gilt wide frame. Accompanying the painting is a pewter hand hammered Revere style pitcher yacht trophy inscribed “Ice Yacht Championship 1914-15 Class A Second Prize “Venture””. Having a copper medallion at center “Medford Boat Club Organized 1898″. An unusual subject matter as we have been unable to find another painting of iceboat racing. SIZE: 30″ x 38″. Pitcher: 7”.
