AMERICAN TOLE PAINTED BIRDCAGE. Circa 1855. Dubuque, Iowa. A cast and sheet steel birdcage in the form of a 3-story home of the period. The brass trim and paint decoration all original. Replicating a mid-19th Century Italianate home in Dubuque, Iowa as related by the original purchaser, Mrs. L. R. Sherman, while exhibiting at the 1954 6th Annual Cedar Rapids Antique Show where this fine example was sold to a buyer from Omaha, Nebraska who then sold it to the current owner. The case is accompanied by the newspaper article dated April 11, 1954. SIZE: 33″ h x 23-1/2″ w x 18-3/4″ d. CONDITION: Structurally very good, retaining all original painted and decorated surfaces with appropriate wear and patina. 9-97788 (800-1,200)
