WHIMSICAL AMERICAN FOLK ART THREE TIER CANDELABRUM. Second half 19th century. This rare and unusual 25 light example polychrome paint and smoke decorated overall. The candle holders each mounted at the end of a spindle are arrayed as spokes in three graduated tiers joined to a central ring and baluster turned shaft in three parts. The base, a demilune painted shelf, raised on spindle legs. Truly an unusual example of American folk art. SIZE: 107″ h x 27-1/4″ dia overall. PROVENANCE: Barbara J. Thornsjo Estate, Albion, Maine CONDITION: Decorated surfaces appear mostly intact, with overall craquelure and in need of professional cleaning. Some candle cups with burn damage, otherwise minor damages to turned and blocked elements of sindles. Generally good. 9-20812 (800-1,200)
