NEW ENGLAND CLASSICAL MAHOGANY SEWING TABLE. Circa 1850, probably Boston. The square top fitted with hinged D-form leaves all with fine figural mahogany veneers above the conforming case fitted with three drawers, each with convex fronts, flanked by similarly formed pilasters. The topmost drawer with a baise lined adjustable writing slope and additional compartments. The middle drawer compartmentalized. The lower drawer constructed as a rigid drum drawer, flanked by columnar supports on an incurved trestle base joined by a rectangular stretcher on suppressed ball feet raised by brass casters. In the manner of Duncan Phyfe. SIZE: 29″ h x 18-3/4″ w x 19″ d closed. CONDITION: Very good overall, retaining original surfaces with good patina and color. There are minor veneer losses to crossbanded trim of cabinet. The interior of bottom drawer retains original marbleized paper lining. 9-97881 (800-1,200)
