RARE AND WELL-DETAILED SALESMAN SAMPLE OF AN OSCILLATING SINGE-CYLINDER STEAM ENGINE. This fine machined model was probably manufactured in the early to mid-19th century. The polished all-metal model is mounted on a flat circular base 4” in dia. The top of the base stamped “PAT. AP’D FOR”. The vertical oscillating cylinder is 7/8” in dia. and 3-3/8” lg. and is mounted to the center cross-member of a serpentine split-pedestal which supports a 3-1/2” dia. serpentine spoked wheel. The wheel is connected to an offset circular disc on the opposite side of the pedestal which is connected to the connecting rod which drives the piston. There is a steam outlet/inlet on the center of the cylinder and another on the cylinder mount. Operates in either direction and on either steam or compressed air. CONDITION: Excellent w/2 screws at the base of one of the pedestals broken, easy fix. 1-10553 (600-800)
