SCARCE RAYNAL DOLL. French cloth doll with molded and painted features in the manner of Lenci. Elaborately dressed in the costume representing a late 18th Century man of the court with powdered wig, tri-cornered hat, long waist coat and knee length pants carrying a wooden cane with painted gold knob handle and tip. NICE KATHE KRUSE BOY & GIRL DOLLS. Lovely couple; both with the so-called “Doll #1″ faces. Girl is all original and is holding a basket of eggs. She is more likely older than the boy. Paint finish on both appears to be original and in good condition. Boy’s costume, if not original is an excellent copy. Both are wearing wooden clogs and socks. SIZE: Both are 17” (43cm). SILBER AND FLEMING DOLL’S HOUSE. Classic Victorian English Boxback dolls house, circa 1840-1860. Consisting of four rooms and two stair halls. Facade features typical two tone painted treatment of beige/white ashlar block faux stonework on the first floor level and orange/red faux brickwork on the second floor level along with a green painted terrace. Modeled after a London terrace house popular in the 19th century. The interior contains a wonderful and completely original blue distemper painted kitchen, complete with kitchen range, oven, dry sink, and Welch dresser with original cutlery drawer. The dining room and stair hall each retain their original wallpapers, and all floor papers throughout the house are the original ones, too, while the wallpapers in the parlor and bedroom are carefully researched replacements in Victorian patterns. Closely resembling the “Henderson Dolls House” depicted in Vivien Greene’s book “English Dolls Houses of the 18th and 19th Centuries”. This house was previously owned by the English collector and author Pauline Flick. SIZE: 26″ h x 31″ w x 20″ l. REGENCY DOLL’S HOUSE AND CONTENTS. This little English box back dolls house, circa 1810-1830, has certain characteristics in common with some other early dolls houses attributed to the late 18th century, most notably to Vivien Greene’s “Dower House” and to Flora Gill Jacobs’ “Georgian Town House” with the front door treatment nearly identical to the former, and its general construction and appearance similar to the latter. Retaining its original painted exterior, it depicts a faux limestone facade and retains its original wallpapers, Evans & Cartwright fireplace, carrying handle on the roof, lion’s head door knocker with ring, brass doorknob on the paneled “mahogany” front door, etc. Included is some early 19th century furniture and accessories, and three lovely early Grodnertal dolls. Furnishings include a wonderful English iron half-tester bed with gilt ball finials, two pairs of early Empire style red Saxony chairs, Empire style fruit wood sofa and china cabinet, and a “rosewood” Empire style tilt top center table, and more. Purchased in Boston many years ago purportedly from an old New England collection. SIZE: 28″ h x 17″ w x 12″ d. EARLY PORTRAIT JUMEAU DOLL WITH CHAIR. Beautiful doll with pale bisque, threaded blue paperweight eyes with mauve shadowing on upper eyelids, incised “2” at the base of the neck. Head is attached to the body with original coil spring with eight separate ball joints and large hands. Stamped on the torso “JUMEAU MEDAILLE D’OR PARIS”. She wears an antique honey human hair wig over cork pate and old antique white pique dress over antique under garments with flannel petticoat and herringbone top coat. Brown leather shoes date from about the 1910 era. Accompanying her are an extra white dress, petticoat, binoculars, brushes, comb, perfume bottle, mirror and necklace; some antique, some not. NICE TETE JUMEAU BEBE WITH ORIGINAL BOX. This wide eye child is stamped on the head in red “DEPOSE TETE JUMEAU BTE S.G.D.G. 5” and the body is stamped in blue “JUMEAU MEDAILLE D’OR PARIS”. The amber brown eyes are especially large with a very wide round eye cut, closed painted mouth with finely painted lashes and eyebrows, on original wooden composition body with straight wrists, and wearing her original blond mohair wig over cork pate. White leather shoes are original, however one sole is missing. She has been appropriately redressed in a sleeveless fine lace dress with pale green coat dress and matching hat. UNUSUAL FRENCH FASHION, POSSIBLY JUMEAU. Unmarked bisque socket head on separate bisque shoulder with well defined neckline, possibly a Dehors patent. She has cornflower blue eyes and is on a gusseted leather French fashion body with lower bisque forearms which are in excellent condition. She wears what could possibly be an original two-piece walking suit and wears an antique blond mohair wig over cork pate as well as brown leather fashion boots of the period. SIZE: 17-1/2″ (45cm). Bisque swivel neck head on separate shoulder plate with pale blue paperweight eyes, incised on back of head “F” on original gusset leather body with square cut collarette and lower bisque forearms. She wears her original dark blond mohair wig, white skirt, antique red leather fashion boots with red and white horizontally striped stockings and her original factory chemise which is tattered. JUMEAU LADY DOLL. Circa 1900 French lady doll with closed mouth head, stamped in red “DEPOSE TETE JUMEAU 5” with brown paperweight eyes, pierced ears, nice even coloring on slender French wood and composition lady body with realistic lady proportions. She is dressed in a copy of an Edwardian costume made of crushed dark gold velvet with elaborate embroidery trim with marked white leather Jumeau shoes stamped “DEPOSE JUMEAU 6”. The wig is most likely original and is honey human hair and is pulled in a bun in the back. She is complete with a faux fox fur wrap. SIZE: 18″ (46cm). JUMEAU FASHION DOLL. Lovely mid-period Fashion by Jumeau is unmarked other than an incised “8” and a red artist initial “L”. Her head swivels on a separate bisque shoulder plate with defined neck edge and is on her original white leather gusseted body with separately stitched fingers. She wears an antique two-piece outfit consisting of a white heavy ribbed cotton with top which buttons down the back with a wide bow draping all the way to the bottom of the back of the skirt. Boots are brown leather with separate soles with gold lettering on the soles reading “BEBE JUMEAU PARIS”. The large blue glass paperweight eyes are an outstanding feature as well as the mauve shading on the upper eye lids. The wig is a more modern sheep skin replacement and an antique hat made of cream silk ribbons and tiny blue cloth flowers. SIZE: 21″ (53cm). CONDITION: Very good. EXTREMELY RARE SERIES F JULES STEINER DOLL. Seldom found petite Steiner child doll with head incised “Sie F 3/0”. She has open/closed mouth with four small molded and painted teeth, with deep dimples on both sides of the mouth and chin, brown paperweight eyes with well painted lashes and feathered eyebrows, well defined ears with pierced lobes and relatively pale bisque with rouged cheeks. She is on her original fully jointed, unmarked body with straight wrists and short, stubby fingers. She still retains her original Steiner cardboard pate covered by the remnants of what had been an original sheepskin wig. Costume is antique dark brown pleated silk with low waistband, fine lace collar with sleeves trimmed in same lace. The shoes are newer black leather boots with higher heels and covering the original sheepskin wig is a newer brown human hair wig with long corkscrew curls. SIZE: 10-1/4″ (26cm). She has lovely blue paperweight eyes with thick heavy eyebrows and long painted lower lashes and pierced ears. She is on her original unmarked fully jointed French wood and composition body with fine original finish. Costume is made in the antique style with the finest quality antique cream silks and fine ecru lace. She wears a flower garland in her soft honey mohair wig and antique brown leather shoes are stamped on the soles “12” and logo of a lady “DEPOSE”. SIZE: 27″ (68cm). EXTREMELY RARE KESTNER ALL BISQUE DOLL. This closed mouth swivel neck all bisque is one of the rarest all bisque made by Kestner. She has blue glass sleep eyes and a closed mouth with an all bisque torso and bare feet. The hands are clenched and in her right hand is a yellow all bisque bird molded into the palm of her hand.Her arms and legs are peg strung and she wears her original blond mohair wig with bangs and an antique lace dress with pink silk ribbon sash and two pink silk flowers sewn to the skirt. 14″ Fre A STEINER BEBE. A fine quality French Bebe with pale bisque, blue paperweight eyes in a composition Steiner body that is fully articulated. She is wearing a red silk cotton dress which quite likely is her original outfit with a matching hat. Marked on rear of head “J. Steiner Fre A 7”. SIZE: 14-1/2″ CONDITION: Overall very fine plus. LOVELY PINTEL & GODCHAUX BEBE. Bisque socket head incised “B” over “P.10.G.” with closed mouth having nicely painted lips, large brown paperweight eyes, well painted eyelashes and eyebrows on original composition 5-piece body jointed at shoulders and hips. These late 19th Century dolls closely resemble the Gautier Bebes and are sometimes referred to as “Paul Girard” Bru. She wears a lovely copy of an original French Bru dress with jacket in light green and lavender brocade with embroidered rose design, a mint green ankle length skirt with lace overlay, nice pale blue leather boots, a brown human hair wig and a straw bonnet with feathers and cloth flowers. FABULOUS PAINTED EYE SWIVEL NECK HURET FASHION. The head and shoulder plate are of exceptional pale bisque quality and her body is a fully articulated kid over wood with a swivel waist and painted wood upper and lower arms. Typical of Huret, they have a most unique, as well as pleasing face with exceptional painted features such as eyelashes, eyebrows, lips etc. Dressed in fine antique clothing with an abundance of undergarments and appropriate leather boots, this doll has been tucked away in a private collection for many years. Unmarked bisque socket head, most likely early Jumeau, on separate bisque shoulder plate with firm gusseted leather body with bisque arms showing no signs of damage or repair. She has pierced ears, pale blue paperweight eyes, closed mouth with slight smile and wears an elaborate costume of striped brown and beige pleated silk with brown ribbon trim and brown felt bonnet with long streamers in back. The antique brown leather shoes are slipper style with large buckles and high heels and all the undergarments, blue and white striped socks, and bustle also appear to be of the period of the doll. Unmarked bisque socket head on separate bisque shoulder plate with high neckline, pale blue paperweight eyes, closed smiling mouth, ears pierced into head, on wood jointed body with joints at wrist, elbows, shoulders, hips and knees. She is well costumed in a one piece strawberry silk dress with long train and lace collar with braid trim, antique red leather fashion boots as well as all antique undergarments. The wig is most likely original and has a honey colored human hair over the original cork pate. SIZE: 17-1/2″ (44cm). 14″ BREVETE BRU. An excellent example with typical pale bisque, mauve shadowing above her amber paperweight eyes and finely painted facial features. Her kid leather body is intact, but somewhat soiled and her bisque forearms and hands appear to be free of any damage and/or repair. Wearing a fanciful French Bebe dress with matching bonnet of newer vintage and a blond mohair wig complimenting the overall look. SIZE: 14″. SPECTACULAR LARGE SIZE LONG FACE TRISTE JUMEAU DOLL. Outstanding, desirable doll with head incised “15” with gorgeous blue paperweight eyes, closed mouth, highlighted nostrils, well defined applied ears on original early wood and composition body with straight wrists and large hands. She wears a beautiful antique honey colored human hair wig with tight corkscrew curls over antique hard French composition pate topped with a wide brimmed black antique velvet bonnet with bow and feathers. Dress is antique white cotton with cut work edging and oversized collar and her shoes (quite possibly original) are antique white silk impressed on underside of sole “14 PARIS BEBE”. She has almond shaped blue paperweight eyes, closed mouth with slight space between her lips, pierced ears, and she is on her original fully jointed wood and composition body with straight wrists with no signs of wear or repaint to the body. Antique blond mohair wig is most likely original to the doll as are her shoes which are stamped in gold “Bebe Jumeau Paris Depose” and “5”. CLASSIC CLOSED MOUTH TETE JUMEAU BEBE. Beautiful size 8 Bebe with even facial painting as well as nice eyebrows and eyelashes. With fully marked head and body with all traditional markings; red stamp on the head and blue stamp on the body. She has been beautifully re-costumed using all old fabric with fine lace trim at the sleeves and base of the skirt. Her white leather shoes are really very nice and date to about 1910. VERY LARGE RED ROOF GOTTSCHALK DOLL HOUSE. House has red painted roof with center arch covering balcony, with two windows and one door under the arch. The second floor has five center windows and two side windows. First floor has an overhang with a receded center entrance flanked by two large bay windows. Exterior of the house is painted in a tan/cream color. Windows retain almost all of their mullions. Base is painted in a gray/green color. The interior of the house has been electrified. SIZE: 32″ h x 29″ l x 13-1/2″ w. CONDITION: House appears to be all original with some minor paint flaking especially to the left bottom corner of house, also has part of window flower box is missing on second floor windows, parts of the cardboard mullions are missing and the right side attic door is missing, left door is present, but not attached. The house does have its original chimneys and large front steps. Interior to house seems to be all original papers and in good condition. LARGE BLISS SEASIDE DOLL HOUSE. This is a very impressive Victorian house with three large dormers, upper balcony flanked by three windows, three lower windows with two door entrances into the house. Also has six spindle columns on the porch area, original wood steps, and varying heights of roof line. The two doors are marked “R. Bliss” and also has an pediment above doorway, signed “R. Bliss” as well. The windows have all the original celluloid and curtains, and interior has original wallpapers. SIZE: 18″ l x 20″ h. CONDITION: Retains almost all of its original paper exterior with very minor losses with some minor discoloration at dormers. Also some minor staining to front of first floor of house. ARCHITECTURAL MODEL IN BOX. Circa 1910. Very unique diorama shows the inside of a fancy store with elegant hand railings, back counter, mantle clock, display areas, pedestal and more. The interior is mostly made of plaster and is impressed with Victorian era designs. Accompanied with six doll house dolls; three which appear to be vintage. The outer walls are made of wood. 14″ WOOD BODIED BRU FASHION. Highly sought after Bru Fashion with the “Mona Lisa” smile. This particular Bebe is on an articulated wooden body (waist does not swivel). She has exceptional bisque, typical Bru paperweight eyes, and fine detailing to eyelashes and eyebrows. At the crown on rear of head is incised with the letter “D”. The letter may be present on the shoulder plate but kid is not fully inspected. Doll is dressed in an antique, perhaps original French Fashion outfit and she appears to have her original French human hair wig. SIZE: 14″. 29″ F. 11 G. FRENCH CLOSED MOUTH BEBE. A fine quality block letter F.G. with huge bulbous blue paperweight eyes, pale bisque and finely detailed facial features, especially her mouth. This Bebe is on a fully jointed, straight wristed composition F.G. body and wearing antique clothing and perhaps her original brown human hair with cork pate. Overall an unusually pleasant and captivating look for an F.G. Bebe. SIZE: 29″. LARGE 32″ JULES STEINER BEBE. Extremely attractive closed mouth doll with head incised “J. STEINER Bte SGDG PARIS Fre A 20”. She has large blue paperweight eyes, well defined ears and is on her original, but unmarked fully jointed French wood and composition body. She has been appropriately redressed in antique cream silk with embroidered etching and a dark brown silk ribbon sash at waist with elaborate pewter buckle as well as having an antique pin in brass reading “BEBE”. Her wig is her original antique dark mohair wig, shoes are vintage replacements. She comes with a wooden handled parasol with green and blue silk fabric. SIZE: 32″ (81cm). 24″ Sie C WIRE EYED STEINER BEBE. A magnificent wire eyed Steiner with original mechanism, blue eyes and fabulous pale bisque including mauve shadowing above the eyes. This Bebe has great appeal with her chubby cheeks, defined facial features and overall facial expression on a straight wristed composition Steiner body with original finish. She retains an original purple paper pate that is enhanced by her blond mohair wig and wears a fanciful white antique gown with matching hat. SIZE: 24″ h. CONDITION: Overall excellent. 24″ FRE A 17 STEINER BEBE. A desirable closed mouth French bebe with uniform fine quality bisque and nicely painted facial detailing. On a fully jointed Steiner composition body and dressed in an antique outfit, and a very fine tosca mohair wig. Shoes are antique and typical of what this bebe should have. SIZE: 24″ h. CONDITION: Overall appears to be free of damage, eyechips, cheek rubs, etc. Composition body appears to be in very good condition with minimal wear. 1-11059 (4,250-4,750)

42″ F. 16 G. CLOSED MOUTH FRENCH BEBE WITH COMPO BODY. An extreme rarity to find earlier French dolls of this magnitude and size! Normally one might be able to locate a 32″-36″ Jumeau or Steiner or F.G., but again, I must reiterate the rarity of coming across a doll of this size and for it not being on a mannequin style body is unheard of. Although the body is unmarked (typical of F.G. bodies) it certainly follows the characteristics of an F.G. body and we believe it to be correct and proper for this doll. More amazing is the overall condition, the body shows minimal wear, especially at the joints. It is straight wristed with original finish and the bisque head itself appears to have no damage. Original amber paperweight eyes with a hint of mauve eyeshadow, a closed mouth with molded tongue (similar to the quintessential Bru Jne models). Fine pale bisque with expertly painted light brown eyebrows, wearing an older fancy dress, she has a long brown human hair wig of newer vintage. Head is stuffed with old French newspaper. SIZE: 42″ h. CONDITION: Minimal wear to body finish, most notably in finger and wrist area. Overall very fine plus. 1-10490 (8,000-10,000)

EXCEPTIONALLY LARGE CLOSED MOUTH TETE JUMEAU BEBE. Head is stamped in red “DEPOSE TETE JUMEAU Bte SGDG 16” and has lovely blue eyes with small eye cuts similar to those found on the so-called “Incised Depose” Jumeau. Body is fully jointed and in good condition although unmarked. She is wonderfully dressed in a deep burgundy soft brocade dress with taffeta sleeves and side panels, large lace collar with matching lace on sleeves and on side bodice. Brown leather shoes are reminiscent of sandals and although old, they are not as old as the doll itself. Wig is a 1960s era honey human hair over original cork pate. Bonnet is an antique child’s bonnet of lovely crushed maroon silk with burgundy colored silk ribbon and ties under the chin. SIZE: 36″ (92cm). CONDITION: Very good with slight typical paint wear and chipping at several joints of the body and neck socket. 1-10882 (13,000-16,000)

LARGE CLOSED MOUTH KESTNER. Head is incised simply “17”, however she is most likely from Kestner. She has a closed mouth, brown glass inset eyes and is on her originally fully jointed heavy German body with straight wrists and separate ball joints at shoulders and hips. She wears a brown human hair wig with bangs, an antique white cotton dress with pink ribbon inserts at the collar, sleeves and at the drop waist. Undergarments are antique, but wears period white leather children shoes which do not close due to the width of the ankles as well as an antique straw hat with cloth flowers. SIZE: 35″ (89cm). CONDITION: Slight firing separation about where right ear meets the surface of the head, missing pinky on right hand with right thumb reglued. Body has been overpainted. 1-10653 (4,000-6,000)

EARLY CLOSED MOUTH KESTNER DOLL. Head is incised “13”; she has brown glass sleep eyes, a closed pouty mouth and an extra roll of fat at the nape of the back of the neck. She is on her original early wood and composition body with straight wrists and wears an original blond mohair wig over plaster pate. Antique costume consists of a one piece black top with red skirt having feather stitching and a matching vest and sash in the same red as skirt. The undergarments, socks and shoes are all antique and in addition she has a black lamb’s wool cape and a dyed black fur muff with a newer black and red bonnet with cloth red roses. SIZE: 18″ (46cm). LOVELY CIRCLE/DOT BRU BEBE WITH PROVENANCE. Bisque head is incised with both the so-called Circle/Dot mark as well as “BRU Jne 4” with shoulder having the same marking. She has lovely bulging brown paperweight eyes, open/closed mouth with slight space between the lips, on all leather body with gusset joints at hips and knees, and wearing her original shoes marked “BRU Jne PARIS 4”. Wig is her original lambs wool wig, which is worn and securely glued to the head. Accompanying her but not photographed is an additional white cotton chemise and an extra half slip. SIZE: 15-1/2″ (39cm). PROVENANCE: The doll was purchased for the original owner’s daughter in 1898 on his trip to Paris to see the observatory and had remained in the family for the last 112 years. This is out of the private estate of the famous artist and astronomer William Henry Knight. W. H. Knight worked for the Bancroft Company in San Francisco and was chief cartographer and mapped California and the Pacific states in 1867 and San Francisco in the 1870s. His maps sell for $9,000 and up. According to the consignor, William Henry Knight purchased it for his daughter Bertha Knight who later married the famous actor Tyrone Power and kept the doll until her death. She also wrote the book on her father’s life entitled “William Henry Knight: a California Pioneer”. CONDITION: Body is firm, shoulder and hands show no damage or repair. There appears to be a bit of yellowy paint on inside lower corner of left eye as well as a minuscule surface flake on the upper left eyelid. Wig is so firmly glued to the head that it has not been removed and in doing so would permanently destroy its integrity. 1-10558 (7,500-9,500)

RARE 1303 SIMON & HALBIG LADY CHARACTER. The Simon & Halbig firm produced a series of 1300 characters. These dolls were of exceptional quality and molding and generally highly sought after by collectors of German dolls. This particular doll features a well molded woman with highly defined facial features, brown glass sleep eyes and is on a ball jointed composition body (older repaint). Her bisque is of exceptional pale quality and she has no distractions such as eye chips or cheek rubs. A braided mohair wig and a fanciful ecru colored dress further add to her appeal. An unusual opportunity to purchase a doll of this quality and magnitude for the discerning collector. Furthermore, she comes fresh to the market directly from the original owner. SIZE: Approx. 21″. RARE GRAND SIZED FRENCH MECHANICAL CYCLIST ATTRIBUTED TO VICHY. Circa 1870s, this outstanding cast metal clockwork tricycle features unusual carved wheel spokes, fancily curved front design, red and gold finish and bone tipped handle grips. Seated upon the tricycle is a bisque headed doll believed to be by Jumeau with black sculpted curly hair, brown glass eyes, original lorgnette (drilled into nose), metal hands, and papier-mache boots in the style of a fashion doll. VICHY FRENCH AUTOMATON. Portraying woman playing the accordion. Late 19th Century piece featuring a black woman with papier mache head with brown glass inset eyes, open/closed mouth with molded teeth in a reclining position playing a papier mache accordion. When wound and as the music plays, the lady’s right hand moves back and forth to allow the accordion to play. Both of her bare feet which are made out of composition move back and forth, her head moves slightly from side to side as well as up and down. She is most likely wearing her original clothes, which shows wear commensurate with its age. Key is original, although unmarked. SIZE: Overall 21″ t (53cm). Figure itself in reclining position is approx. 18″ (46cm). CONDITION: Everything appears to be original with slight paint flakes on face, minor chips on toes and clothing somewhat dusty with some wear to the silk. SIMON & HALBIG CHARACTER DOLL. Desirable doll with expressive features, incised “S & H 1279 DEP Germany 11”. She has an open mouth with four upper teeth, dimples in both cheeks, so-called “flyaway” enameled eyebrows, and evenly painted eyelashes. She is on a fully jointed wooden composition body and wears her original blond mohair wig with bangs. She has been redressed in a burgundy and black striped taffeta dress with lace and black velvet ribbon trim. SIZE: 22″ (56cm). VERY PRETTY EMILE JUMEAU BEBE. Head is incised “DEPOSE E6J”, body is stamped in blue “JUMEAU MEDAILLE PARIS”. Her best feature undoubtedly is her blue sparkling paperweight eyes as well as her fine facial painting. She comes on her original fully jointed body with straight wrists and eight separate ball joints. Costume is replaced but entirely appropriately made with all antique fabrics. Wig is a 1960s era light brown human hair with long sausage curls. Shoes are most likely homemade and from old oil cloth and well match the jacket of the dress. SIZE: 15-1/2″ (39cm). CONDITION: Body retains original finish. There is an old restoration to forehead, which one does not notice until light is inserted into the head. 1-10644 (1,500-2,500)

LARGE DEFUISSEAUX CHARACTER LADY. Bisque shoulder head incised “F1″ with molded and painted features, solid dome head on a cloth body with plaster-like lower arms and legs with molded high heel gold lame shoes. Realistically modeled in the fashion of the Van Rozen characters. She has a very expressive face and made just at the end of WWI. The wig is antique honey human hair with antique ribbon bows and the dress is a printed cotton with lace trim and the bonnet is antique with ribbon decoration. SIZE: 29” (74cm). LONG FACE JUMEAU “TRISTE” BEBE. The Jumeau doll firm produced many different bebe examples from the later 1800s and into the earlier part of twentieth century such as fashions, portraits, Tetes, Deposes, Long Faces, etc. Although the bisque head on this bebe has had overall restoration, she is still the epitome of this particular style of Jumeau Bebes. On a jointed Jumeau body this is the largest size Long Face produced, a size 16 marked on rear crown of the head. She has huge blue paperweight eyes and the typical Long Face characteristic features one expects from a doll of this magnitude. Appropriately dressed in an elaborate replica outfit with and a newer light brown French human hair wig. SIZE: 33″ h. BRU DOLL WITH WARDROBE & TRUNK. 1880s French bisque doll with the so-called “Circle/Dot” with open/closed mouth and finely painted upper teeth, brown paperweight eyes with mauve shading on upper eyelids. Separate bisque shoulder plate with realistically modeled bosom on original gusseted leather body. The dress she is wearing is a peach pleated silk with pale green ribbon trim and collar and is quite possibly original. She wears her original shoes with logo “B” in a circle, “Size 1”. She comes with a large dome trunk with separate tray with extra underclothes, pillow sham, crochet coverlet, a blue velvet dress coat, a black brocade top with black sequins and braid trim, a 2-pc walking suit, and a 1-pc gray taffeta dress with teal silk trim in the style of her original dress as well as a purple velour overcoat with attached hood. SIZE: 16″ (42cm). CONDITION: Very good; slight mold line on crease of chin, which is typical. Her bisque forearms are German replacements, however her original Bru bisque forearms are contained separate in the trunk and appear to be in good condition with the possibility of two fingers on right hand having an old restoration. 1-10792 (12,500-17,500)

WOOD BODIED FRENCH FASHION WITH TRUNK AND TROUSSEAU. Swivel neck bisque head incised “4” on separate shoulder plate mounted on fully articulated wooden body with joints at wrist, elbows, shoulders, waist, hips, knees and ankles. She has blue glass paperweight eyes, closed mouth, most likely from the firm of Gaultier. She has a brown human hair wig, upswept in a bun in the back. Clothing consists of a blue and white striped cotton two piece ensemble with lace trim at collars and sleeves, antique white cotton undergarments, corset, brown leather shoes with heels impressed “5” on the soles, of questionable age, a floor length purple velvet dress with train, edged in black lace, olive colored pinstriped walking dress with pockets, sleeves and collar with feather stitched trim and a white pique night dress. All is contained in an elaborate studded leather trunk bearing the brass label reading “ARTICLES DE VOYAGE J. BARREETT LYON RUE HOTEL DEVILLE”. SIZE: 18″ h (46cm). CONDITION: Excellent. LARGE JUMEAU CHILD DOLL. Head is incised “1907 14″ and has lovely blue gray paperweight eyes, open mouth with six upper teeth, well painted eyelashes and eyebrows and has pierced ears with a dimple on her chin. She is on her original fully jointed French wood and composition body which is unmarked; body finish appears to be original. She wears a replacement brown human hair wig over antique hard composition pate and has been appropriately redressed in a cream silk and antique lace dress. SIZE: 29-1/2” (75cm). EXTREMELY PRETTY 1907 JUMEAU CHILD DOLL. Head incised “1907 9” with very nice blue paperweight eyes, slightly open mouth with six tiny upper molded teeth, pierced ears, creamy complexion and nicely painted eyelashes and evenly painted brows. Body has the blue stamp reading “BEBE JUMEAU DIPLOME d’ HONNEUR” with overall good original finish. She has been well re-costumed in a plum velvet jacket with ecru lace trim, pleated skirt with red rose braids and a huge purple ribbon on the bodice. Wig is newer light brown human hair and the shoes are new blue leather with cloth flower rosettes. SIZE: 20-1/2″ (52cm). LARGE OPEN MOUTH JUMEAU DOLL. Very pretty earlier version of the open mouth Tete Jumeau bebe fully marked with the red stamp on the head “15” and blue stamp on body reading “BEBE JUMEAU DEPOSE PARIS”. She has blue weighted glass sleep eyes, open mouth with six porcelain upper teeth and is on the original fatter Jumeau body, fully jointed with fatter, earlier fingers. She has been elaborately re-costumed in a copy of a Jumeau couture dress and consists of purple velvet and cream pleated satin and antique ecru lace. Wig is newer brown human hair and the shoes are newer brown leather. SIZE: 32″ (81cm). CONDITION: Significant firing separation on left side of head with a possible faint surface hairline extending in the opposite direction. JDK 245 HILDA BABY. A very charismatic and desirable character child, he/she has very fine complexion to the bisque, blue glass sleep eyes, and original Tosca mohair wig and on the proper Kestner composition body. Marked on rear of head “16”, 20 would have been the largest size. This baby is approx. 20″ tall with a head circumference of approx. 15″+. Character face with wide spread eyes and two upper teeth and bobbling tongue, make this the most appealing doll. SIZE: 16″ h. LARGE HILDA TODDLER DOLL. Although incised simply “J.D.K. N 1070 Made in Germany 18″, this is one of the molded hair versions of Hilda made by Kestner. It’s on a fully jointed toddler body with diagonal hip joints and retains fine, original finish. The doll has blue glass sleep eyes, an open mouth with two upper teeth and molded and painted hair. LARGE ARMAND MARSEILLE DOLL. Head is incised “A. 20 M.”. She is on her original fully jointed wood and composition body. The blue glass eyes have been set in a stationary position and she has an open mouth with four upper teeth. She wears what is possibly a 1920s era white cotton child’s dress and a new brown human hair wig over cardboard pate. The shoes are antique brown children slippers. SIZE: 40″ (101cm). 22″ SHOULDERHEAD WAX LADY DOLL. Outstanding lifelike wax doll with inset hair and glass eyes. Affixed to a cloth body with wax lower arms and lower legs. She has a closed mouth and turned head looking to the right. Cloth body has oval stamp on chest with indecipherable writing. Extremely fine detailing including feathered eyebrows, applied lashes, and well defined molded ears. Lacking clothes except for shoes and socks. SIZE: 22″ h. CONDITION: Overall very good. TURN OF THE CENTURY DOLL HOUSE. Very charming house has two removable front panels that open to reveal four rooms, each having a window. The interior includes many hand carved details, such as a stove hood and a pass-through window from the kitchen. The exterior of the house is carved to simulate brick and has elegant hand carved window trim. The rooftop holds a gazebo. House is accompanied by a large lot of furnishings including piano, beds, chair, hutch, all created by the maker of the house. SIZE: 32″ l x 33″ h x 15″ d. Set of furniture includes a Peira mirror, secretary desk, corner hutch, dining table with four chairs and two arm chairs and settee with blue silk fabric seats and backs. TWO MALE DOOR OF HOPE DOLLS. Two wooden head villagers in similar costumes; one obviously portraying an older man while the other is slightly younger. LARGE SFBJ TODDLER DOLL. Head incised “UNIS FRANCE 251 12″ and has open mouth with two top teeth, a separately molded tongue and blue glass sleep eyes with painted lower lashes and silk upper lashes. He is on his original French toddler body with diagonal hip joints and is dressed in a pale gold velour two piece suit and possibly original black leather shoes and a newer synthetic replacement wig. 35″ H. HANDWERCK #99. An unusually large German doll with brown glass sleep eyes (head stuffed) on a fully jointed composition body with original finish (some wear to body). As always, Handwerck 99’s have a unique and typical pleasant quizzical expression, and this doll is no exception. Dressed in an antique red cotton outfit with a blond mohair wig of newer vintage. UNUSUAL GEBRUDER HEUBACH DOLL. Head is incised “DEP DOLLY DIMPLE GERMANY 10″ (with Heubach fan mark). She has blue glass sleep eyes, stuck-put ears, open mouth with two upper teeth and three pronounced dimples; one on either side of mouth and one at chin. She is on her original fully jointed composition body. She is appropriately dressed in a 1910 style cotton dress with corduroy overcoat and navy blue velvet hat worn over antique human hair wig. PRETTY GERMAN CHILD DOLL. Head incised “GERMANY HEINRICH HANDWERCK SIMON & HALBIG”. She has brown sleep eyes, enameled eyebrows, finely painted upper and lower lashes, pierced ears, open mouth with four upper teeth on the original fully jointed Handwerck body. The dress is possibly original and is a pale bluish-green silk with lace trim collar and sleeves with an additional large lace collar and pink sash and silk purse. Wig is antique curly human hair with an additional garland of artificial flowers. SIZE: 24″ (61cm). CONDITION: Appears very good; however wig not able to be removed, but no visible signs of damage upon inspection. Few minor rust stains on dress. 1-10796 (300-500)

GROUP OF ELEVEN GERMAN BISQUE & ALL-BISQUE DOLLS. Lot consists of two Hertwig all bisque Campbell kid type dolls with molded clothing, two all bisque Kewpie-type dolls sometimes called “Cupid”, five all-bisque boy dolls all from the same mold dressed identically in pleated gauze with gold stars possibly used at Christmas tree ornaments; along with a small Gebruder Heubach boy with flocked hair on five piece composition baby body and a small AM 210 Googly with painted and molded features on a five piece composition toddler body with molded and painted shoes and socks. FRENCH PAPIER MACHE DOLL. So-called “Pauline” with painted and molded features including black painted hair and is mounted to French leather body with mitten-style hands. She wears an antique cotton print dress and antique underwear with flannel slip and lovely dark brown antique leather slippers with purple trim and purple ribbon ties. SIZE: 18″ (46cm). CONDITION: Very good, however some surface dirt and fading of paint. 1-10794 (1,000-2,000)

C. HACKER STABLE. Wooden stable is divided into two parts; one side holds the two horses with the names above stalls of Tomboy and Susette. The other part is divided for the carriages, storage etc. House is painted cream color with black painted simulated brickwork. Has three half-turn columns in the front. Base is painted black with the two windows on either side carry black trim as well. Inside of stable is painted gray with the upper portion cream. Overall the color combination is quite appealing to the eye. Stable is also open at the top. Accompanying the stable are two horses, a piece of cast iron Stevens furniture, a small hand-painted early American toy horsedrawn wagon and a Stevens tin covered pail. Part of the charm is the size of the toy which is very handleable. SIZE: 24″ l x 15″ h x 15-1/2″ d. CONDITION: Overall very good. Noticeable wear to the painted floor of right side of stable. PAPIER MACHE DOLL DIORAMA. An appealing display creation consisting of a papier mache milliner model doll out for a summer stroll through the park in her Sunday finest. Set in a demilune glass case with a painted background and flowers and trees to add to the realism of the scene. SIZE: 12-1/2″ w x 11″ h x 5-1/2″ d. CONDITION: Overall generally very good. Label on box shows a picture of the walking doll with directions on how to operate. SIZE: 9-1/2″ h. CONDITION: Trim on doll clothes needs to be reattached, otherwise doll is in near excellent condition. STEIFF CAPTAIN DOLL. A very large and impressive doll. The captain has sailor cap, glass eyes with bushy beard and hair tufts, body made of felt with jacket being black with four felt buttons and pants colored red plaid. Captain has movable arms. Doll has original Steiff button in ear. The Captain was a comic strip character of the early 1900s. SIZE: 15″ h. CONDITION: Seams slightly coming apart, fabric worn through in a few small areas, and some minor staining on hand & pants. Overall condition very good. 1-11065 (1,000-1,500)

STEIFF MAMA KATZENJAMMER TEA COZY. Large figure of Mama Katzenjammer made of felt with airbrushed facial features, including glass eyes and apron. Felt green skirt, and red polka dot top, with wool underlining to keep tea hot. Has original Steiff button in ear. Mama Katzenjammer was a popular comic strip character from the 1920s. SIZE: 16″ l. CONDITION: Near excellent condition with a few tiny moth holes, other than that colors are very bright. 1-11066 (800-1,500)

RARE STEIFF CLOWN BEAR. This glass eyed bear has black stitched nose, mouth and claw separators and retains the original button in left ear with remnants of a red tag behind the button. The original pointed hat with pompoms is sewn to the head. His head swivels and he is also jointed at the shoulders and hips. Felt paw pads are original with good overall mohair coverage. SIZE: 10″ (25cm) to top of hat. CONDITION: Good to very good; moth hole at top of hat, one lower paw pad and slight loss to hair at back of left leg and on muzzle. 1-10606 (1,000-2,000)

LARGE EARLY WHITE STEIFF BEAR. Appealing bear still retaining the original Steiff button with the underscore “F” mark, having large shoe button eyes, original brown stitched nose, mouth and claws, elongated forearms and pronounced hump on back. SIZE: 24″ (61cm). CONDITION: Overall mohair loss roughly 30-40% with most of this loss being on back of legs and rump. There has also been some restitching to ankles as well as other isolated stitching including right side of nose. 1-10602 (800-1,200)

RARE 11″ STEIFF BLACK BEAR. We believe this fellow to be of Steiff manufacture from the early 20th century. Very unusual to find a black bear by Steiff, his shoe button eyes are inset with red felt background and his pads are of a gray felt (as opposed to the traditional tan felt normally found on Steiffs). Typical arm and leg configuration with cardboard disc for swiveling, excelsior stuffing, and overall a most appealing look. These black Steiff bears are purported to be referred to as “mourning bears” made shortly after the Titanic tragedy of the early 20th Century in honor of those who perished. Fur is generally in very good condition with most notable loss to left leg and some to face. Brown threading on mouth and nose is largely intact, small section missing on tip of nose. SIZE: 11″ h. EARLY STEIFF CINNAMON BEAR. This sweet faced bear has the button in left ear with the underscore “F” mark, large shoe button eyes, remnants of original nose, mouth and claw stitching. Has large hump on back as well as the long forearms. SIZE: 18″ (46cm). CONDITION: Although still adorable, he still has considerable mohair loss especially to the rump and entire back of legs. All four paw pads have been renewed and both ankles have been restitched and repaired. 1-10603 (500-1,000)

RARE 26″ AETNA GOLDEN MOHAIR TEDDY BEAR. This outstanding and large American fully jointed bear dates to pre-1920 and is brimming with charm and character. He has a stitched nose, glass eyes, a quizzical expression, felt pads, and slight back hump. Unusual to find a bear so large, he has been given a paper collar (later addition) to mimic the beloved and storied Aloysius bear from the same period. SIZE: 26″ h. TWO EARLY STEIFF TEDDY BEARS. 1) Pale plush bear with shoe button eyes, dark brown stitched nose, mouth and claws lacking button in left ear, but undoubtedly a Steiff. Nice thick plush remaining throughout. 2) Lighter colored bear has shorter hair and still has the metal button in left ear with underscored “F” mark. He too has shoe button eyes, remnants of his nose, mouth and claw black stitching and has a very round firm torso with big belly. SIZE: 14″ (35cm) each. TWO EARLY WHITE STEIFF BEARS. Larger has shoe button eyes, blank metal button in left ear, brown stitched nose, mouth and claws, and has pronounced hump on back and long forearms. The smaller also has a blank button with shoe button eyes, brown stitched nose, mouth and claws as well as pronounced back hump and long arms. Despite wear both have significant appeal. SIZE: 12″ (31cm) and 9-1/2″ (24cm) respectively. CONDITION: Larger bear has significant mohair loss, especially to face and all four paw pads have been recovered. THREE STEIFF BEARS. All three teddies are from the late 1940s to early 1950s. The smaller of the three is a very nice white bear with the “US Zone” cloth tag on his right arm. He is glass eyed with brown stitched nose, mouth and claws. It is hard to find US Zone bears that are tagged as such. The larger gold mohair bear also has a Steiff button in the left ear and has brown glass eyes with black stitched nose, mouth and claws and is an especially chunky bear. The remaining larger bear does not have the button in the ear, but looks very similar to the gold bear which is fully marked. SIZE: Range from 17″ (43cm) to 20″ (52cm). THREE EARLY TEDDY BEARS. 1) Largest is a cinnamon plush bear with shoe button eyes, dark brown stitched nose, mouth and claws and although no longer having a button in the ear, has pronounced qualities of an early Steiff bear. 2) Beige bear has a Steiff button in the left ear with the underscored “F” mark and has shoe button eyes, black stitched nose, mouth and claws with an inoperable side squeaker in the torso. 3) The darkest bear was at one time a cinnamon bear and is quite early due to the fairly big hump on the back and extended long arms. However, he is missing too much mohair to be able to ascribe a maker. SIZE: 14″ (36cm), 12″ (31cm) and 11″ (28cm) respectively. THREE TEDDY BEARS. 1) This largest of the three teddy bears has a pronounced snout, unusual glass eyes with a clear background, short ears which protrude backwards, hump on back and big belly with large round feet. 2) Has shoe button eyes, black stitched nose, mouth and claws, short arms and flat feet. 3) Smallest of the three has shoe button eyes, black stitched nose, mouth and claws having a puppy dog face and pretty gold mohair. FOUR WELL LOVED TEDDY BEARS. Two smaller bears have shoe button eyes and the bear with the red vest has a blank button in the left ear. Both have been partially redressed possibly to conceal loss of mohair. The two larger bears also have shoe button eyes and black stitched noses, mouths and claws, but neither have a button in their left ear. The beige bear definitely has Steiff qualities; the gold one is possibly also Steiff, but we are not guaranteeing to be as such. SIZE: Two larger are 12″ (31cm) each. Two smaller are 9-1/2″ (24cm) each. CONDITION: Both of the larger bears have some mohair loss as well as some moth holes in paw pads. EARLY STEIFF ROOSTER. Although lacking button, there is a slight hole in one of the red under feathers indicating where the early button would have been. The intricate design features eight separate colors of overlapping felt pieces, glass eyes, with an orange felt beak. The splayed feet are made of metal and are tightly wrapped in white silk thread. IVES CLOCKWORK CIRCUS RIDER TOY. A unique form, mounted upon a paneled walnut box with clockwork mechanism enclosed is American tin horse with a bare back rider standing on the mare’s back. When the toy is activated, the horse imitates a prancing action where the female figure stands atop the platform and spins about. EXCEEDINGLY RARE IVES HOOK BEHIND CLOCKWORK TOY. One of the most desirable of Ives early horse drawn vehicles that is fresh to the market, from the original owner. The toy depicts a woman dressed provincial clothing driving a one horse country wagon with four large cast iron wheels as black mask face boy dressed in blue jacket, red pants, and tin hat trails behind. When wound, his articulated cast iron legs simulate running as the woman rocks to and fro and the horse gallops all simultaneously. Polychrome wagon features traces of original fruit decals, and partial label stating patent date under the woman’s seat. EARLY AMERICAN TIN HORSE HOOP TOY. Quite possibly by George Brown, this toy from the 1880s features a white horse within a ribbed red tin circular hoop. Hoop toys are very difficult to find due to the susceptibility to damage, let alone scrap drives, childhood destruction, and other pitfalls. This particular toy came from a general line antique dealer/collector who had gotten it from Bernard Barenholtz some 30-35 years ago. GEORGE BROWN “DEXTER” HORSE AND RIDER PLATFORM TOY. Modeled after the famed racehorse of mid-1800s, this toy shows a large brown horse in full gallop with black mane and tail with red belly band being ridden by full bodied gent with top hat, blue coat and white pants. Toy sits on green platform base with cast iron wheels. SIZE: 12″ l x 9″ h. CONDITION: Overall very good for this early toy. Even paint flaking, base shows noticeable areas of paint loss. GEORGE BROWN SURREY WITH FRINGE. A rare form for an American tin toy. George Brown employed a stamped fanciful trim, not only on this toy, but on others as well such as the Circus Cage Wagon and Cottage Banks. The clever use of this trim simulates fringe hanging from the stenciled roof. As often is the case, toys emulated real life and this is a faithful replica of an actual surrey. SIZE: 15″ l. COPY OF THE RARE SANTA & GOAT SLEIGH BY BERGMANN. Santa sits in tiny sleigh, his body is crepe paper, papier mache face and he is being pulled by two brown goats with bells on their blue and yellow saddles. The original toy is one of the earliest American tin toys ever made. This copy was made about 20 years ago. There were only a couple dozen of these produced. Toy is complete with original wood box. LARGE EARLY AMERICAN TIN IVES “WHISTLER” CLOCKWORK LOCOMOTIVE. Patented May 2, 1876, this large and impressive engine painted in black, red, and green with gold stained boiler bands, smokestack, fancy cut-out windows, elaborately cast iron wheels, and decal on roof of a horse. Engine is stenciled “Whistler” on sides of boiler and fitted with a whistling mechanism activated by the piston rod. When wound, offset piston rod simulates motion of a real locomotive. Affixed with rod connected to cowcatcher that adjusts direction. SIZE: 11-1/2″ l. CONDITION: Overall very good with noticeable paint flaking to boiler and roof. 16″ BERGMANN CLOCKWORK GIG. Very fancy Bergman clockwork gig, almost seems like an “End of Days” toy. Sometimes, at the end of a work day in the late 1800’s manufacturing, a toy might get some extra embellishments like found on this toy. Fine line pinstripe paint brush work and abundant use of polychrome finish make it a super deluxe model! There also is a partial patent date stenciled on the front dashboard. An interesting feature is the side bottoms of the gig. The “skirt” above the wheels is actually a small animal tin toy. Base is cut in 1/2 length-wise & soldered to the gig. The toy operates in a zig-zag pattern through a rod attached from the clockwork to the hitching bar. The horse gallops in a pivoting up and down motion driven by an eccentric axle on the front wheel. Fine painted orange and red brushwork detail the rains and saddle decoration. The horse detail is complete with white socks, black feet, mane and tail. SIZE: 15″. MARKLIN CENTRAL STATION. A fine all original, hand painted early 1900s Marklin station in exceptional condition. Station is painted with a marbelized effect and trimmed with window details and an abundance of gilt on the roof trims. Station is fresh out the Washington, DC area house and is in as found, untouched condition. Flag on roof is an original flag, but possibly not correct for this toy. Acid etched glass in station is intact and complete, originally candlelit, but at some point in time long ago, electrical sockets have been added. Lacking bell in right front corner. CLOCKWORK “MONTREAL” SIDE-WHEELER ATTRIBUTED TO LUTZ OR ROCK & GRANER. A very rare form and in as found, untouched condition. This toy was purchased over 30 years ago at a New York estate sale for $75 and subsequently has sat on this gentleman’s shelf in the same condition as purchased back then. Fine quality painting detail further enhance the desirability of paddle wheel boats and although this boat does need some minimal repairs, once again a unique opportunity to purchase a toy of this quality. Original paddle wheels are intact, fine quality painting to decking, however, there is some damage to rear deck and appears that there should have been an awning supported by four poles on said deck. FABULOUS AND RARE MARKLIN “LUZERN” CLOCKWORK LAKE BOAT. Boat is painted with simulated planking on decks and has a cream and red hull, hand painted windows, portholes, and cabin, two lifeboats, two smokestacks, four ventilators. Fancy handrail is painted gold. A strong clockwork motor and a wheel to turn the rudder. As with most Marklin boats, this boat has extra fine detail in which all other companies lack. HESS TIN WINDUP FLOTILLA BOAT SET WITH ORIGINAL BOX. German boxed set including a large clockwork polychrome Dreadnought battleship with guns mounted to bow and stern, smokestacks, air vents, etc. accompanied by five smaller boats in various colors that connect by wires to the lead boat. Accompanied by its original box with paper label showing the fleet in action and paper bag with wire supports showing the variety of ways to set up the fleet. UEBELACKER PADDLE WHEEL BOAT WITH ORIGINAL BOX. Very handsome side wheeler hand enameled with brown deck and upper sides, brown canopy with red pinstripes, red hull and side paddles. Retains both decals stating “Niagara”. Under the canopy are flat lead passengers seated at a table. Boat is highlighted by gold figurehead in the form of a mermaid and two flags. Red ship’s wheel at stern turns rudder. Uebelacker used a unique windup mechanism which winds with a hand crank at the rear of the boat. Accompanied by its original box and instruction sheet. GUNTHERMANN WIND-UP TIN EARLY BIPLANE. Made in Germany, the plane is a representation of the Wright Brothers’ invention. FROG AIRPLANE WITH ORIGINAL BOX. Very unusual toy manufactured by International Model Aircraft Ltd. Toy has a tin body with paper wings and wood propeller. Toy comes disassembled and when put together is propelled by a rubber band motor. Airplane comes with original box complete with instructions. SIZE: Plane is 8-1/2″ l. UNUSUAL GERMAN AIRPLANE TOY ON SPIRAL POST. Toy has two hand painted early biplanes with lithographed pilots which are attached to a spiral rod with two wooden ends. When toy is turned, top to bottom, the planes travel downward. This toy must have delighted child plane enthusiasts for hours. SIZE: 17-1/2″ h. FRENCH PAPER LITHOGRAPH AIRPLANE GAME. Cranberry colored box having two fold-down sides is opened to reveal game. Game consists of a five-roof hanger with a large tower extending out of the center roof with “Fabrique D’ Aeroplanes” across the side. From the tower extends a metal pole in which a hand painted tin biplane is suspended. Biplane is complete with a lithographed pilot in the driver’s seat. A ball is placed in an opening in one of the roofs and exits at the doorway below. Once exited the ball will roll into a circular hole with a number underneath. There are little figural pawns that can be placed on the lithographed field in front of hanger. SIZE: 29″ l. Overall 18″ h to top of tower. EARLY TIN WIND-UP BIPLANE WITH PILOT. Extremely scarce early hand-painted biplane features composition pilot in the driver’s seat. Plane is an almost exact replica of the very first flying machine. Has a wind-up mechanism with two cardboard propeller blades in which when the plane is held by a string propels the plane in a realistic motion. Incredibly detailed and rare. Plane is painted yellow with red pinstriping, the under frame of plane is painted light brown. Plane is complete with four tin wheels so that it may be able to run on the ground as well as fly in the air. SIZE: 16″ l x 12″ w. INCREDIBLE HAND BUILT ATKINS STOVER AMERICAN OUTLINE LIVE STEAM ENGINE & TENDER. Perhaps one of the finest and most elaborate live steam engines created by a craftsman with respect to meticulous detailing as well as quality. This model of the New York and New Haven Railroad #90 was built for the consignor’s grandfather who was an iron industries magnate, a big train buff and who was responsible for building and developing the Cornwall & Lebanon Railroad. In the late 1800s, the elder Robert Coleman commissioned Atkins Stover of Brooklyn to build three trains for each of his sons. This very train ran on a custom track around Coleman’s Cornwall mansion property and was later on display at the Lebanon County Historical Society in Lebanon, Pennsylvania in the mid-1990s being on longterm loan by Robert Coleman, Jr. (grandson of Mr. Coleman, and the present consignor). A wheel configuration of a 4-4-0 with an 8-wheel tender, this particular engine is reminiscent to those that have traveled the continent in the mid to late 1800s. In very intricate detail, including miniature valves and steam lines, a boiler door, seats in the cab, lettering and scroll work, and leaf spring suspension on the tender, the boiler is fashioned of wrought steel while other parts were made from nickel, copper brass, and silver plate. The engine and tender are accompanied by their original packing crates (though one crate top has been replaced and affixed with a modern clasp). The tender crate cover is affixed with its original canvas shipping label from Col. Archibald Rogers to the elder Robert Coleman. Models/toys like these seldom come to market, let alone being as fresh as this piece, having been held in private hands for many many years. This presents a unique opportunity to the prospective buyer to purchase an exquisite locomotive and tender with family provenance extending well over a century. EXTREMELY RARE LIVE STEAM RADIGUET LOCOMOTIVE. Collectors familiar with Radiguet usually think of their live steam boats. This particular piece is a live steam French locomotive with an 0-6-0 wheel configuration. Self contained with no tender, this is a most elaborate as well as rare and highly desirable toy that appeals not only to train collectors but collectors of live steam toys as well. Contained within its original wooden box, this toy has been in the same family for close to 100 years. LARGE CARETTE OPEN TOURING CAR. Circa 1910 and a popular item for Carette and remains popular among collectors today. This open touring car has molded metal simulated tufted leather seats, hand brake, and lever to reverse mechanism. Also features four lamps (2 side lamps and 2 front cowl lamps). Car is hand painted white, yellow spokes, white rubber tires, two opening passenger doors, and beveled glass windshield, driven by strong clockwork motor. SIZE: 12-3/4″ l x 6-3/4″ h. CONDITION: Enameled hand painting shows noticeable crazing, some paint chips and loss to edges and high points. Tires are soiled, but appear to be original. JEP 4-DOOR SEDAN. Medium brown body with red stripes, black roof, fenders, and chassis, lithographed running boards, front and rear license plates, and nickel plated radiator shell and headlight rim, nickel plated klaxon, and driver’s spotlight. Inside shows front and back seat, steering wheel, and gear selector. Car has clockwork mechanism (working) with forward and reverse. Electric spotlight. Car rides on painted tin wheels with simulated balloon tires, all of which are removable for added play value. On the rear of the car are three bars simulating a luggage rack and oval back window that completes the 1920s look of a typical saloon automobile. ROULET DE CAMP RABBIT IN CABBAGE. A fur covered musical rabbit with glass eyes peering above a head of cabbage rises slowly flapping his ears and slowly revolves. Probably of 1930s vintage, an unusual feature is the blue leafs as opposed to the normal green leaves, the integral key marked “RD” and a Louis Vuitton cloth label on underside of base. At one point in time Louis Vuitton in their stores also had a section for novelties such as children’s toys and dolls. Label is marked “Louis Vuitton 70 Champs-Elysees Paris”. SIZE: Approx. 8″ h. EARLY GERMANY COW PULL TOY. Circa 1905-1910. Large cow, hide covered, glass eyes, resin horns, leather color with brass bell on dark colored grain painted wooden platform with wooden wheels. To operate cow, head is pushed down, mouth opens and cow is supposed to make the Moo sound SIZE: 16″ l. FRENCH DECAMPS WALKING ELEPHANT. Circa 1905-1910. Hide colored elephant, missing one ivory like tusk, with glass eyes with down curved trunk with airbrushed highlights, and four wheels protruding from feet. When toy is wound, it shuffles in a very realistic manner. Toy also comes with original key. SIZE: 10″ l. CONDITION: Some minor scuffing due to age. KALEIDOSCOPE CANDY CONTAINER. Extremely rare, one of only a few known to exist, this tin and glass candy container is one of the most sought after of all candy containers. Patented by Turney G. Stough, circa 1913, it retains nearly all of its paper decal reading “Moving Pictures” with directions for use “By West Bros. & Co., Grapeville, PA”. SIZE: 7″ h x 3″ w. LEHMANN AUTOBUS WITH ORIGINAL BOX. A popular windup toy made by Lehmann in Germany is the No. 590 double decker bus. Bus is lithographed in bright colors, mainly red and yellow. Has a Lehmann emblem on back stairway to upper deck and also on the grill of the cab. Also has a simulated tire with yellow spokes. The upper deck has four lithograph seats in red. The driver lithographed in brown with brown hat. Accompanied with an original box with the bus brightly lithographed on the lid. SIZE: 8-1/2″ l. CONDITION: Bus is in superior condition with only slight traces of wear, colors are extremely bright and toy looks like it was rarely played with. LEHMANN PADDY AND HIS PIG WIND-UP TIN TOY. Made in Germany, this racially stereotypical Irishman with pipe in hat sits on his pig and when wound, the figure comically moves up and down while the pig circles erratically. SIZE: 6″ h. The second, maker unknown, features a black figure standing on a solid red roof and muted lithographed colors on the base. When wound, the figure dances on the rooftop. SIZE: 9-1/2″ h. PAIR OF “ALABAMA COON JIGGER” WIND-UP TIN TOYS. The first is a German Lehmann Alabama Coon Jigger. Black fellow dances comically on top of box when wound. Due to the success of the Lehmann Coon Jigger, other companies began manufacturing the toy. The second was made in NY by the Ferdinand Strauss Company. SIZE: 10″ h. DANCING SAM & DAN THE BANJO MAN WHIRLIGIG. Outstanding wooden whirligig from the first half of the 20th century. Manufactured by the Eau Claire Wood Products Co. of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. New old stock retains both its original paper labels on either side, instruction sheet, and original box bottom. These painted jointed wood men with decal overlays depict black minstrels playing a banjo and dancing a jig. When the wind blows, they are set into action. SIZE: 19-1/2″ l x 12-1/2″ h. NIFTY TOONERVILLE TROLLEY WITH ORIGINAL BOX. One of the most popular toys ever made by Nifty is the Toonerville Trolley. This toy was a spin-off from the comics in the 1920s. Windup trolley is lithographed in red and yellow with “TOONERVILLE TROLLEY” on both sides, and on bottom “copyrighted 1922 by Fontaine Fox”. Fontaine Fox was also the writer of the comic strip. When wound the skipper with hand on the trolley turns, and it moves erratically. Accompanied with original box with manufacturer’s label showing the trolley in action. SIZE: 5″ l x 7″ h. CONDITION: Overall nearly excellent condition. Original key is missing and one dark spot on top of roof. Otherwise lithography is very bright and shiny. BUDDY L INDUSTRIAL TRAIN SET WITH ROUNDHOUSE. The engine is painted green and retains all its original decals. It is accompanied by five cars all painted red including a coal car, a dump car, a flatbed etc. Train is also accompanied by its original roundhouse which is dark green and also retains its original decals. This is one of the nicest complete sets we have had the pleasure of offering in some time. Has a dozen pieces of curved track as well as turn-around a cross section and a switch gate. SIZE: Engine is 10″ l. Cars average 7″ l. Roundhouse is 32″ l x 8-1/2″ h. CONDITION: These toys were usually played with outdoors, so it’s difficult to find this toy in even good condition. This toy is in exceptional condition. The train set itself is near excellent plus. The track shows minimal wear. The roundhouse is near excellent with some minor age wear. EXTREMELY FINE STURDITOY WRECKER. One of the chief competitors of Buddy L was Sturditoy; their toys have the same or above quality of Buddy L but were not as heavily produced therefore much harder to find. The wrecker is painted overall red having black rubber tires are embossed “Made Expressly For Sturditoy Trucks” fitted with red painted hubs. Decals can be found on rear panels of truck as well as above the grill. Wrecker is also complete with a working tow bar. These toys were generally heavily played with outside and to find one in this good of condition is extremely rare. SIZE: Approx. 31″ l. CONDITION: Near excellent plus. BUDDY L BAGGAGE TRUCK. Very handsome toy with a large black cab, yellow bed and sides with a chain across the back to hold the luggage in. This toy original came with a handcart which is not present. Stake body is adorned with “Buddy L Baggage Line” decals on either side as well as original decal on floor board of cab. Wheels are silver with red painted hubs and chassis. SIZE: 26″ l. OUTSTANDING BUDDY “L” BUS. Fantastic pressed steel bus painted in green with gold pinstripe, steel wheels, side mounts at front, and opening driver & passenger loading doors. Retains side decals and rear decal reading “Buddy L Transportation Co.” Details include individual seats, steel headlights, steerable front wheels, and dual back wheels. SIZE: 28 1/2″ l. CONDITION: Some minuscule paint chips, otherwise near excellent. KEYSTONE “THE WORLDS LARGEST CIRCUS” TRUCK. This Keystone truck is a very difficult truck to find with original six cages and animals. Another feature that the truck had, which was unusual in toy trucks is the use of paper lithography on the inside and outside labels of the flip down sides of the orange truck body. The play value of this toy was wonderful for a child as he/she could take the circus cages out of the truck by unlatching the lithographed side panels. By lifting one of the cage bars, he/she could remove the animals and play with them. Colorful paper litho over wood animals, which include two purple camels, two giraffes, two lions, an elephant and what appears to be a bear. They could be played with individually or be hooked together to form a circus parade. Another feature of this truck that increased its play value was the ability to sit on top of the truck and steer the front wheels and coast down the sidewalk or have a friend pull you. The orange color is unique to the Keystone circus truck as well as the blue painted cab and chassis, it still retains Keystone floor plate and radiator decal. Wheels are a bit deeper orange color and have Hood balloon tires and the truck also has simulated headlights. A rare chance to own such a unique toy with all its accessories. SIZE: 26″ l. CONDITION: The orange roof shows some paint loss and scratches. The paper lithography on the passenger side shows considerable wear whereas on the driver’s side it shows very minor wear with bright coloration. The inside labels are in very good condition. SCARCE STEELCRAFT PACKARD PEDAL CAR. Pedal car is painted green having white trim, black running boards and has simulated canvas convertible top. Additional features on this car is two separate headlights, two cowl lights, a search light and horn. The front grill is nickel plated steel and carries the “Packard” emblem as well as steel front and back bumpers and black rubber tires fitted with steel hubs. The interior of the car has a steel seat, black steering wheel and celluloid windshield with steel frame. Car is complete two original Steelcraft license plates; one on front and one on reverse. These are extremely rare and desirable pedal cars and to find one all complete and original makes this a gem. SIZE: 50″ l. CONDITION: Toy is all original with some even wear and oxidation throughout with most noticeable areas at the fenders and hood. Some chrome parts show discoloration. BUDDY L WRECKER. Wrecker features a black painted cab with red painted body and tow arm. Tow arm can be turned from side to side with a black wheel and has a mechanism which can be turned to raise and lower the boom. Toy also has pressed spoked hubs with black rubber tires; a feature which really accentuates the toy. Either side of bed has “Buddy L Wrecking Truck” decals as well as “Buddy L” label on floor of cab and on either side of tow arm. SIZE: 27″ l. SCARCE & DESIRABLE BUDDY L TUGBOAT. Boat is painted two shades of green; the deck and cabin of boat is painted olive green with the bottom a darker blue-green. Cabin has a search light, hand rail and smoke stack. Boat also has an unusual mechanism to propel it as well as having original “Buddy L” decals on hull and deck with one on smokestack “BL Quality Toys Navigation Company”. One of the most desirable of all Buddy L toys ever made. Greatly sought after by Buddy L collectors and boat enthusiasts alike. This particular boat did not have a long production life. SIZE: 27″ l. SCARCE BUDDY L IMPROVED CYLINDER STEAM SHOVEL ON TREADS. This steam shovel came in two versions; with and without treads. This is the much more scarce version of this toy. Toy is painted black and red overall having black steam shovel, black top of cab, black painted treads as well as red base. Also complete with two pistons. When handle is turned on the steam shovel the pistons raise and lower the scoop. Remnants of decals are found on either side of cab. SIZE: 22″ l x approx. 17″ h. CONDITION: Very good. These outdoor construction toys were usually very heavily played with. It is extremely hard to find ones that have not been excessively damaged through the years. BUDDY L “IMPROVED” CYLINDER STEAM SHOVEL. Steam shovel is painted black with red roof and red frame with a crank which is connected to two pistons to raise and lower the shovel. Wheel to turn the vehicle 180 degrees for tight maneuvering. Shovel is complete with two decals “Buddy L Improved Steam Shovel” as well as “Buddy L Quality Toys”. SIZE: 21″ l x 14″ h. BUDDY L CEMENT MIXER ON TREADS. Fred Lundahl, founder of Buddy L, focused on play value of his toys that were manufactured. With this concrete mixer, made from 1929-1931, a young boy could actually make concrete and could build roads and foundations if he wanted to. These toys had a low survival rate as often times they were left outside. The operation of the toy was put in motion by turning the hand crank which turned gears with a clutch mechanism that could turn the drum and/or raise and lower the hopper. One the other side of the drum is the discharge chute that is controlled by a lever arrangement on the frame. With all the moving parts that had to be manufactured for this toy it is easy to see why there weren’t many made and certainly even less that survived. Finding the larger construction toys complete is a difficult task. This toy is all original and is in working condition. It was a very complex toy to engineer and produce. BUDDY L OVERHEAD CRANE. This is the later version of the overhead crane. It uses a mechanism like that on the wrecking truck made by Buddy L. Its folding frame remains the same. Crane and top of frame are painted red, sides are black enamel, also has remnants of “Buddy L” stickers on either end of crane. Crane moves back and forth by a series of pullies. A fairly scarce toy. BUDDY L OVERHEAD CRANE. Very hard toy to find, part of the construction toys that Buddy L made in the 20/30s. The toy works by a pulley system which moves the crane from side to side and a winding mechanism that raises and lowers the bucket. The crane frame is painted in red and black. “Buddy L Quality Toys” is hand-stamped on each end. SIZE: 43″ l x 24″ h. CONDITION: Very good, minor paint loss and discoloration to red parts of the toy. SCARCE KELMET “WHITE” SHOVEL TRUCK. Big Boy Crane truck has low open cab with clamshell digger attached. Spoke wheels having black original Goodyear tires. Steam boiler has an original “White Big Boy” decal with address of mfg. Toy is also affixed with an Ex-Donald Kaufman Collection tag. SIZE: 26″ l. BUDDY L BUS. One of the very desirable toys made by Buddy L in the 1920s, this bus has nice original decals and is painted green. Bus has headlamps, mounted spare tires on sides of front hood and dual wheels on rear. Also has opening front doors, a steering wheel that moves the front tires and five rows of seats. SIZE: 28-1/2″ l. CONDITION: Because these early toys were played with and then stored in damp basements, garages, sheds, barns, etc., it is hard to find nice examples of this toy. SCARCE TURNER LINCOLN AUTOMOBILE. Wonderful large and impressive sedan from the late 1920s fashioned after the “Lincoln”. Automobile is painted red with beige roof and striping at bottom of windows as well as interior of the car. Has two separate head lamps and a separate attached front bumper and four original “Turner Toys” tires painted black with red hubs. SIZE: 26″ l. BUDDY L “STANDARD” OIL TRUCK. Truck has a two-tone closed cab painted white and red, two electric headlights, separate tin grill, pressed red hubs with “Balloon” tires and “Buddy L” decals on either side of doors. Hood ornament is adorned with a twisted heavy wire handle which a child could either navigate the front wheels or ride atop. Back of truck has a red tank with a screw off cap for filling. Tank is complete with a brass spigot. Both sides of the tank have a “Standard” decal in white and a “Standard Oil Company (Indiana)” decal above spigot. SIZE: 25″ l. BUDDY L TANK TRUCK. Cool truck features a black cab with a green enameled water tank with a brass spigot at rear. Truck has red chassis with red and silver painted wheels. Truck is complete with original detachable sprinkler and four original metal water cans with original decals. We imagine that this truck served as years of entertainment for any child. SIZE: 23″ l. BUDDY L STANDARD OIL TRUCK. Truck has a red closed cab, two electric headlights, separate tin grill, has pressed red hubs with “Balloon” tires and “Standard Oil Company (Indiana)” decals on either side of doors. STEELCRAFT DELUXE CITY ICE TRUCK. C-cab is painted orange with two separate head lamps, has decal “Steelcraft” on backseat and has “Mack” bulldog decals on either side of cab. Back of the ice truck is painted green with “City Ice Co.” decals on either side as well as a hand rail that extends down both sides of the bed of the truck. Rubber tired wheels on cab with dual tires and bed of truck. Lot is complete with three original ice cubes. SIZE: 26-1/2″ l. BUDDY L STAKE TRUCK. Scarce open cab truck is painted black with silver tires and red hubs and chassis. Truck is complete with a black bed having five removable red side stakes. BUDDY L FIRE PUMPER. Very interesting fire toy. When water is placed in the boiler of fire truck, there is a hand pump that actually squirts water through a hose. Painted all red with search light, two separate headlights, nickeled bumper and nickel top of boiler. Very impressive looking toy which also has decals on sides of seats with “CFD” in square logo as well as a Buddy L decal under search light in cab. SIZE: 23-1/4″ l. AMERICAN NATIONAL “GIANT” DUMP TRUCK. Very impressive large Mack front dump truck is brightly enameled in orange and green which is a very unusual color combination. Wheels have pin striping as well pin striping on the hood and roof of truck. Bed is adorned on either side with original “Giant” decals and an oval “American National” decal is located on the grill which has a crank below that raises and lowers bed to dump out contents. BUDDY L AERIAL LADDER TRUCK. Toy operates by turning a series of wheels; one in which turns the aerial ladder from side to side while the other wheel when turned raises the ladders. Fire truck is painted red with gold “CFD” decals on either side of seat as well as Buddy L aerial truck decals rear. Truck is complete with brass bell. SIZE: 28″ l. KEYSTONE STEAM SHOVEL & DUMP TRUCK. 1) Steam shovel which could be operated by cranking mechanism to lift and lower shovel. Body of the toy is painted red and black. Shovel is on four steel wheels and has decals on side stating “Keystone Steam Shovel”. 2) Dump truck that is painted black with red frame with red and silver tires. By turning crank on front bumper of truck, it raises and lowers the bed. Decal on radiator which reads “Packard” as well as decals on both sides of the bed “Keystone Dump Truck”. SIZE: 12″ h and 25″ l respectively. CONDITION: Both toys are very good plus with some wear to wheels of steam shovel and some paint loss to upper sides to bed of dump truck and back of cab. TWO BUDDY L FLIVVERS. Both vehicles are painted black; one has original Buddy L decal on radiator. Both have red spoke hubs with silver wheels. RARE BOUCHER CABIN CRUISER “THE SHARK” WITH ORIGINAL BOX. An extremely difficult boat to find, particularly with its original box. Nicely constructed tin watercraft with green and white hull with tan decking having removable cabin with brass trim portholes. Inside is its original alcohol burning motor. Stern of boat retains its original metal maker’s plaque. Accompanied by its original box with “Boucher” label on end and shipping labels from Railway Express on sides. RARE BOUCHER SUBMARINE. Solid hardwood, finely carved teardrop shaped vessel with cut-out open top in which resides its original marked “Boucher” motor (needs reattaching) and rear brass propeller. KELLNER CLOCKWORK SPEED BOAT. German 1920s. Wood model pond boat with blue and cream hull and gold pinstripe having natural wood deck and cabin area. FABULOUS LARGE WOODEN NOAH’S ARK WITH ANIMALS. Large German ark is brightly hand painted in multiple colors with simulated wood grain on the main cabin, faux painted windows on all sides of cabin. Has full boat bottom painted in brown, roof is painted red with black wash accents. Roof is hinged at top to store a wide variety of nicely painted animals, which includes pairs of: elephants, camels, rhinos, polar bears, zebras, rabbits, and various farm animals. Wagon sits on frame with four wood spoked wheels in red. Also accompanied by a horse on platform to pull wagon. Has original driver, which is usually missing, and a wooden crate, stamped “MILK” with 6 milk bottles. Schoenhut made a series of these carts for the Northeast and this one was sold more in the New England area. SIZE: 23″ l. SCARCE SCHOENHUT SAFARI FIGURE. Safari figure has brightly painted composition head, wooden feet and arms, dressed in safari outfit made of khaki linen material. Also has a belt with attached pouch. Figure has slotted hands and feet and was able to hold different accessories. Of all the hundreds of figures that Schoenhut made, the safari figures are among the rarest and most coveted by collectors. SIZE: 8″ h. CONDITION: Figure is in excellent plus condition with a couple very tiny chip flakes on head. Clothes are extremely bright and painting on arms and feet are vibrant. LOT OF 2 WOODEN FLIP TOYS AND WOODEN PUZZLE. Lot includes paper litho on wood block 24-piece puzzle that makes 6 different puzzles including the one on the cover of the accompanying original box showing a man flying a Wright Brothers style plane above a crowd of astonished children. As somewhat related items, lot also includes two wooden flip toys from the fertile inventive mind of Orville Wright (yes, that Orville Wright) that were distributed by the Miami Wood Specialty Co. of Dayton, Ohio. Included is “Flips & Flops-the Flying Clowns” in which a spring board propels two wire-armed clowns across to a waiting trapeze. HAPPY LAND PLAYTHINGS ROCKING DUCK. Circa 1920s-30s. Wooden rocking animal for hours of fun for a boy or girl. This die cut duck with saddle seat waddles his legs and opens and closes his bill with every rock. Front retains traces of original maker’s decal from this Ohio manufacturer. SIZE: 37″ l x 23″ h. SCARCE HUBLEY CAST IRON DO-X AIRPLANE. Without a doubt, one of the hardest and most difficult to find toy airplanes! This plane came in two sizes, and this is the larger of the two. The body of the plane is painted light blue, wing is red with six simulated nickel plated iron propellers on top of wing. Rear of plane is embossed “DO-X”, highlighted in gold. Also has rubber tires with red wood hubs. This scarce plane is very hard to find, and rarely offered in this condition. SIZE: 7-3/4″ l. CONDITION: Plane is in excellent plus condition with very bright colors. Rubber wheels have slight crazing, and the nickled propellers have some oxidation. SCARCE CAST IRON KENTON MORGAN CRANE. An elaborate cast iron toy features collapsible trestle frame, nickel plated chain hoist and tracks, green painted box with nickel wheel, black painted bucket with embossed “The Morgan Crane” across the tracks. Pictured in the 1932 Kenton catalog. This hard to find toy rarely comes to auction and would be a great addition to anyone that collects construction/crane items. SIZE: 16″ x 11″ 12″ h. CAST IRON HUBLEY ELGIN STREET SWEEPER. Incredible casting, the detail of the sweeper is almost an exact copy of those used in the streets across America. Painted in gray overall. Sweeper brush turns in a realistic action when the toy is pulled. Has nickel grill and white rubber tires. Driver painted in white uniform. “The Elgin” is embossed on the front of the sweeper. Impressed on bottom “Hubley MFG. Co., Lancaster, PA”. SIZE: 8-1/2″ L. CONDITION: Toy is in overall very good condition with some noticeable chipping throughout the body of the sweeper. SPECTACULAR BULLET NOSE ARCADE RACE CAR WITH DRIVERS. A true rarity. This aesthetically pleasing 1930s race car is in very good plus untouched original condition. Nickel plated drivers and exhaust along with its pleasing green color makes this a most appealing collectors of toys as well as racing enthusiasts. One of only a few known to exist. SCARCE SMALL ARCADE #9 RACE CAR. Aerodynamic torpedo shaped racer painted in yellow with black trim with nickel plated exhaust pipes and drivers. Sits on white rubber tires. CAST IRON ARCADE REO COUPE. One of the most sought after of the Arcade early vehicles. Painted in yellow with red pinstriping and black chassis and bumper. Has separate cast nickel grill, six nickel plated tires with red spokes, nickel plated driver, and opening rumble seat to reveal original arcade decal. A fairly scarce automotive toy. SIZE: 9″ l. ARCADE FLAT TOP TAXI CAB. Painted orange with black roof and fenders with nickel plated cowl lights and driver, white rubber tires with orange hubs. “THE TWO COONS” BELL TOY. Manufactured by The Gong Bell Co., this comical cast iron bell toy depicts a black child and a raccoon both entering a hollowed log. CAST IRON WILKINS FIRE PUMPER. Great looking fire pumper with three galloping horses; two white and one black with wagon painted an attractive yellow and gold. Fireman is cast into the wagon with a red shirt, yellow hat and black pants. Very eye appealing toy. SIZE: 17″ l. CAST IRON MECHANICAL RECLINING CHINA MAN BANK. Mfg. by J. & E. Stevens. Fairly scarce reclining China man lays on log holding a hand of cards with four aces. Below the legs of the China man is a rat exiting the log. When coin is placed in China man’s pocket both arms move alternately revealing his cards. SIZE: 8″ l. CONDITION: Overall good. China man is lacking most of the paint to his clothes as well as a small casting flaw near his eye. MECHANICAL PUNCH & JUDY MECHANICAL BANK. Mfg. by Shepard Hardware Co. Brightly colored hand-painted bank is cast in the shape of a theater. When coin is placed on Judy’s tray and lever is released, Punch takes a swipe at Judy with a bat. Embossed on top of theater is “Punch And Judy Bank”. SIZE: 7-1/4″ h. CAST IRON MECHANICAL DARKTOWN BATTERY BANK. Mfg. by J. & E. Stevens. This bank has great crossover appeal to bank collectors, sports memorabilia collectors as well as collectors of black Americana. Coin has very interesting action and when coin is placed in the pitcher’s hand and lever is released, simultaneously the pitcher pitches the coin, the batter swings arms and the catcher moves hands and nods head with incredible action. CAST IRON MECHANICAL CAT & MOUSE BANK. Mfg. by J. & E. Stevens. A fairly scarce bank in the form of a clock with cat face embossed in center. When lever pressed, the mouse sitting on top of clock spins revealing a cat playing with mouse and ball. SIZE: 9″ h. CONDITION: Good with overall wear to bank. ORIGINAL WOODEN BANK BOX FOR THE CLOWN GLOBE BANK. In most cases the wooden boxes that were made to hold the mechanical banks are much rarer to find than the banks themselves. Normally the bank was taken out of the box, and the box was tossed or used for some other purpose, so over the years very few of these have survived. The Clown on Globe was originally sold as the Funny Clown bank and was later referred to as the Clown on Globe. Box is tongue & groove and came with a slide lid. Box is also imprinted “No. 1332, Funny Clown Bank, Manufactured by the J&E Stevens Co., Cromwell Connecticut” and had directions on how to operate the bank. SIZE: 9-1/4″ h. CAST IRON MECHANICAL TAMMANY BANK. When this bank was created, it was to represent Boss Tweed; a corrupt politician in New York in the 1880s. It depicts a figure sitting on a chair and when coin is put in hand, the boss slides money effortlessly into his pocket. Painted with brown paints and blue coat with yellow vest and also has “Tammany Bank” on one side of chair and “Hall’s Pa’t” on the other as well as “Pat’d Dec 28, 1873″ on back of chair. SIZE: 6” h. CAST IRON EAGLE & EAGLETS MECHANICAL BANK. Mfg by J. & E. Stevens and patented in 1883. A very popular bank of its time and was sold as the American eagle. Place coin in eagle’s mouth and when lever is pressed eagle feeds eaglets in nest and coin is deposited. SIZE: 7-1/2″ l. CONDITION: Overall very good plus with nice bright highlights on base. TWO SPISE A MULE MECHANICAL BANKS. Both by J. & E. Stevens Mfg. Co. These are the two versions of the bank; one with jockey sitting on a mule and when lever is pressed, jockey falls off mule and coin is deposited in ground near stump with the second version is a jockey sitting on a bench and when lever is pressed the mule spins knocking jockey off bench and coin is deposited in base. Both banks are embossed on base “Always Did ‘Spise A Mule”. SIZE: 10″ l each. CONDITION: Jockey on bench is in good condition with overall wear to bank. TWO MECHANICAL BANKS. Kyser & Rex lion and two monkeys bank; coin is placed on monkey’s hand and when lever is pressed small monkey piggybacks the other and when lion opens mouth the coin is deposited. Also included is a J. & E. Stevens mule entering a barn bank; coin is placed between mule’s hind legs and when lever is pressed a dog runs out from the barn and mule flips up and deposits coin into the barn. SIZE: 9-1/2″ l and 8-1/2″ l respectively. CONDITION: Lion and monkeys is repainted with replacement small monkey. LOT OF TWO MECHANICAL BANKS. 1) Trick Dog six-part base by Hubley. Place coin in dog’s mouth and when lever is pressed the dog flies threw clown’s hoop depositing coin in barrel. 2) Shephard Hardware Co. Artillery bank. Coin is placed in cannon and when lever is released cannon deposits coin in bunker while the solider right arm raises up and down. SIZE: 8-3/4″ and 8″ respectively. CAST IRON MECHANICAL PENNY PINEAPPLE BANK WITH O.B. This colorful bank was created to commemorate the 50th state (Hawaii) in 1959. It was manufactured by Imswiller & Saylor and is in the form of a pineapple head with embossed “50” in a star on chest. When coin is placed in pineapple’s hand and lever is pressed, coin is lifted to the mouth and eyes roll up when coin enters mouth. SIZE: 9″ h. HARLEY-DAVIDSON SILENT GREY FELLOW MOTORCYCLE. Believed to be a 1912 model, but accompanying certificate of title from the State of Indiana indicates it as a 1911. One of the oldest and most sought after motorcycles by the undisputed king of motorcycles. Started in 1903 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this 1912 bike is a 5 horsepower, 35 cubic inch machine driven by a flat leather belt. Weighing in at approximately 195 pounds, this single speed bike had a top speed of 45 mph. This example has been lovingly restored with attention to detail, appearing to have used original and/or correct parts and pieces, but true aficionados should either examine in person or request additional photos, which will graciously be supplied. Engine is stamped with serial number 5945B on the cylinder head, matching the number on the marked Harley crank case. Bike is painted in gray, black, and red with Harley decals at various spots and resting on white balloon tires by Universal Tire Co. of Lancaster, PA. CHILD’S MOTORCYCLE CARNIVAL RIDE. Circa 1948. At one time, part of a larger carousel ride, this child’s size dummy motorcycle has been restored and decked out as a classic Indian roadster in purple with two padded seats, leather saddlebags, pneumatic tires, decorated tank, and front mud fender ornament. LIONEL GIRL’S TRAIN SET. An unbelievable set. In an attempt by Lionel to reach a wider audience, the company created a set for girls in more cheery pastel colors. Not many were sold, making them very scarce today. This is a rare opportunity, not only to be able to find a set with all their original boxes, it even has the set box! The set includes the engine, tender, canister car, two box cars, hopper car, gondola car, caboose, and transformer. Originally coming from the original owner, they were purchased for her because, coming from a family of all boys, she was left out of much of their fun. Her brothers were not allowed to use it, and the few times she ran the train, she immediately put the set back in their boxes until the next time, which accounts for their stellar condition. The current consignor has had them for several years, just having them packed away. CONDITION: Engine has one or two tiny chips on cab roof and one or two tiny rub marks on coupler base. Caboose has one or two minor blemishes on roof. Box car 6464/510 has a few small chips on ladder and one chip missing. LOT OF 2 UNUSUAL BRASS STEAM WHISTLES. Includes Dome top Lunkenheimer example with steam valve lever and spring loaded needle finial that pulls down separately for additional tone. Also includes Powell’s 3-chimer with star logo and valve lever. SIZE: 16″ and 18″, respectively. Includes nickel 3-chime Lunkenheimer whistle (15″), Lee Tire & Rubber Co. #3 2-chime whistle (11″) that is also known as “the Waymaker” with incomplete valve lever, Purdy “Fourtone” square cylinder 4-chime whistle from Chicago with rotating valve, and Aeromere 4-chime example (10″). SIZE: As stated. CONDITION: Generally good. Most show tool marks and general wear. Waymaker has small dent and stress crack in smaller cylinder. Whistle appears to have been overpainted or splashed with white paint, most of which has worn off to original surface. Also Buckeye single with acorn finial, single unidentified example with acorn finial and “S” logo on base, and unmarked single with nut finial. SIZE: Ranges from 12″ to 13-1/2″ h.
