Estimate should be $4,500-$5,500. SUPERB AND WELL-EXECUTED MODEL OF A WORKING LIVE-STEAM TRACTION ENGINE. This museum-quality model features a horizontal single cylinder of approx. 7/8” dia. Bore x 1” stroke, side-mounted valve chest with linkage to crankshaft-driven eccentric rod, cylinder top-mounted throttle valve with top-mounted brass safety and linkage to cab-operated hand throttle. Well detailed cylinder heads and packing glands, single 4-1/2” dia. spoked flywheel sliding gear reversing mechanism, bull gear and pinion drive to rear axle and twin 6” dia. spoked wheels. The boiler of locomotive design with 2-1/2” dia. barrel, four 5/8” dia. boiler tubes, riveted firebox, smoke box and water-leg, wood or coal grates, cab-mounted gauge glass. ¾” dia. brass pressure gauge reading 0-150. Working smoke box door with hand-lever latch. Green and black painted boiler with brass bands, check valve and piping to cab-mounted hand operated boiler feed pump, cylinder saddle blower with valve and piping to smoke box, tapered stack and hinged firebox door. Chassis details include: twin 3-3/4” dia. spoked steerable front wheels with 1-1/4” dia. cab-mounted steering wheel with shaft to worm-gear driven cross shaft to chain steering. Other details include: brass wheel hubs, brass steam whistle, and gear control to multi-gear rear wheel drive. SIZE: Overall 18” l X 7-1/2” w x 11-3/4” h to top of stack. CONDITION: Excellent mechanical condition.
