RARE AMERICAN FOLK ART CARVED VENTRILOQUIST FIGURE BY WILLIAM HENRY JAMES SHAW. 1890-1910. William Shaw, of Victoria, Missouri was, among other things, a noted maker of ventriloquist figures. His extraordinary Afro-American figures are well known amongst aficionados of Ventriloquism. Few appear to be marked or signed according to Dan Willinger, an expert in the field. The carved head with strong features, movable mouth, and glass eyes. Dressed in a double-breasted herringbone jacket, black slacks and leather button shoes.
