IMPORTANT HERSCHELL-SPILLMAN SEA SERPENT CAROUSEL FIGURE. Early 20th Century. Professionally restored. This fine example in shades of indigo, gold and purple carved with an open mouth and scrolling mane highlighted in gold. The curled tail serving as a foundation for its fanciful leaping stance. Relatively few of these creatures exist today as rendered by the Herschell-Spillman company. A similar example is found on the cover of “THE CAROUSEL NEWS AND TRADER”, February 2008 issue. Other examples to be found on pp. 22 and 25 in the same issue. Sold with a custom stand and brass pole. SIZE: 63″ h x 70″ l x 18″ w. PROVENANCE: From a private collection. CONDITION: Fully restored.
