HONORE PELLEGRIN (French, 1793-1869) SHIP PORTRAIT OF THE “VAUCHLIN”. Watercolor on paper portrait of the black two mast ship being received in Marseilles Harbor in 1828. 16 well dress crewmen are seen on deck while a rowboat with 7 figures is tethered to bow. Two flags fly off top mast and the French flag off the back. The background shows a depiction of the harbor buildings. Signed and inscribed and dated bottom right. Title and dated 1828 in black margin below. Housed in a decorative black and gold frame with watercolor highlighted matte with glass. SIZE: Sight: 16″ x 21-1/2″. CONDITION: Not examined out of frame. No tears visible. Some all over foxing which may have been lightened by cleaning. Otherwise very good. 9-98211 (1,500-2,500)
