GEORGE III MAHOGANY BUREAU BOOKCASE. Last quarter of the 18th Century. In two parts, the upper case with dental carved and beaded cornice fitted with a pair of astragal glazed doors with geometric mullioned panels opening to an interior fitted with two adjustable shelves. Set on the mid molded lower case, the sloping lid opening to lopers, the writing surface mounted with tooled leather, the interior fitted with a pair of blind fretwork drawers set in a row of valanced pigeon holes above a double row of aligned document drawers. The case fitted with a pair of aligned short drawers over three graduated drawers, all with cock beading on a molded base raised on bracket feet. SIZE: 84″ h x case 42″ w x 22-1/2″ d. CONDITION: Retains old original surfaces and glass panels. Minor losses to dental molding on cornice, backboards are original, brass hardware are later replacements in re-drilled holes. Bracket feet original with old glue blocks, very good overall. 9-98075 (2,000-4,000)
