EXCEPTIONAL CARVED AND PAINTED FEMALE BLACKAMOOR FIGURE ON PEDESTAL. 19th century, Continental. This fine example depicting a female in beaded headdress, necklace and dress across the front of which is a cinched apron or robe, wearing high button shoes. All in vibrant polychrome colored designs. Torch held in upraised right hand. Left arm partially extended holding a plate or tray. Statue fitted on hexagonal column applied with lion masks on a molded plinth. SIZE: Overall: 79″ h. Statue: 53″ h. CONDITION: Painted and decorated surfaces mostly intact with minor losses throughout. Flame on top of torch absent. Abrasions to paint on nose, mouth and lower left leg. Statue with old shrinkage cracks and some restoration. Generally good to very good. 7-70059 (5,000-7,000)
