RARE PAIR OF EARLY DECORATED FIREHOUSE WINDSOR YOUTH CHAIRS. 19th century. Both of identical style and decoration. The first an armchair with turned spindles, nicely turned legs, and stretcher base. The overall body paint decorated with black over red. Having gilt highlights, the backrest stenciled with wonderful American three-masted sailing vessel flying an American flag. The second a similar styled highchair, also decorated in the same motif and having similar turnings. SIZE: Youth armchair approx. 22-1/2″h (to the top of the back rest); highchair approx. 32″ h (to the top of the back rest). CONDITION: Youth armchair is generally very good; spindle joints are a little loose and the paint decoration shows some minor imperfections as a result of age and use. Matching highchair shows more use than the armchair. Paint shows more wear in the arms, seat and front leg support. The back painted in identical style and has been cracked at one time in two places. A charming pair of child’s chairs. 9-98457 (1,250-1,750)
