LARGE 18TH/19TH CENTURY PAINTING ON BONE CLASSICAL SCENE. Signed bottom right what appears to be “Paulain”. The scene shows sixteen figures in a park-like setting, some in romantic conversation. All centered on an elegantly dressed man & woman, the man holds a large staff. Beyond the group can be seen two flying cherubs, one with torch, the other with bow. To the right, under a tree, is a marble statue of a man; with flowers and a quiver of arrows beside. Housed in a magnificent brass Empire French frame with bow-tie crests and easel back. SIZE: Sight: 6″ x 10-3/4″. CONDITION: There are two complete horizontal cracks and one from each side that does not meet; there are gaps & losses between the cracks. 9-21498 (3,000-4,000)
