FINE CONTINENTAL RENAISSANCE REVIVAL IVORY AND EBONY TRAVELING BOX. Second half 18th century. In the Renaissance style, the rectangular molded cornice above the molded case fitted with a pair of doors opening to an arrangement of 3 deep drawers over a long drawer with three simulated drawer fronts, on a molded base raised on bracket feet with shaped and scalloped returns. Decorated overall with scrimshawed ivory panels of hunters and warriors. Additional square panels with insects, flora and fauna. Also decorated with mythical creatures. Sides fitted with carrying handles. SIZE: 8-1/2″ h x 10-3/4″ w x 6-3/4″ d. CONDITION: Structurally very good with restoration to proper left cornice. One bracket foot replaced. Normal and expected shrinkage cracks to ivory panels. 9-21509 (2,500-4,500)
