DR. PRICE’S BAKING POWDER POSTER. Extremely rare stone lithograph – only example known. Fabulous image of a French countryside vista depicting colorfully clad ladies and gents in a vineyard harvesting grapes, from which the cream of tartar for Dr. Price’s Baking Powder is derived. In the distance is a large chateaux overlooking a lake surrounded by mountains. The caption at the bottom reads: “Scene in France – Gathering Grapes For Making Cream Of Tartar For Dr. Price’s Cream Baking Powder”. Printed by the Krebs Lith. Co. Cincinnati, circa 1880, on cotton rag paper. Dr. Price’s Baking Powder was the invention of Dr. Vincent Clarence Price (1832-1914), grandfather of the Hollywood movie actor Vincent Price. He is credited with creating the first cream of tartar baking powder that went into production in 1865. Dr. Price partnered up with a local banker to create the “Steele and Price Company”. Together they opened a factory in Chicago and began manufacturing “Dr. Price’s Baking Powder”. In February 1884 Dr. Price bought out his partner and incorporated under the name “The Dr. Price Baking Powder Company”. SIZE: Sight Size is 16-1/4″ x 24-1/2″. CONDITION: Displays in near excellent condition. Poster has been professionally archivally cleaned, de-acidified and mounted onto Japanese mulberry paper by the Paper Conservation Studio, NYC. A small 1/2″ x 1/4″ piece of the lower right corner has been professionally inpainted.
