JOHN HALEY BELLAMY CARVED EAGLE WITH BANNER. Late 19th, early 20th century. This carved pine example, perhaps one of the most well known of the varieties available, showing a displayed eagle with banner carved with a single 5-pointed star. The banner never decorated. For nearly identical examples see those illustrated on pages 55-57 in John Haley Bellamy Carver of Eagles by Yvonne Brault Smith. SIZE: 9-1/2″ h overall x 25-1/2″ l. CONDITION: The painted and gilded surfaces worn throughout. The banner with repairs and with breaks at tips. The beak of eagle with a crack. The head at juncture to body with 1″ chip. Proper right wing tip with repair. Proper left wing tip missing 3/4″ strip at end. Otherwise good. 9-98534 (5,000-10,000)
